About SpecialEd

The reason I wanted to start this is simple. I wanted a platform to share experiences, effective practice and resources with people who are working or living in the wonderful world of special needs personally or professionally. One of the biggest things that I have learnt in my 9 years of working with children with special needs, is that talking about personal experiences and strategies can be one of the most effective ways to improve your own practice and the lives of others. However, there needs to be more of this. I have spoken to friends who have worked with children with additional needs 3 times longer than me and they always say how there’s never an easy answer. Wouldn’t it be great if the chances of finding a new strategy that works were increased?

I don’t know about others, but the main reason why I got into this game (and what motivates me to get in the car in the morning) is thinking of strategies to make the children I teach happier, safer and more able to fulfill their potential. Therefore it’s simple isn’t it? There is a HUGE wealth of knowledge out there that needs to be shared as much as possible. No child is the same but there may be that one little nugget that you find that could change lives for the better.

So with the help of my good friend Danny, we have tried to create a space for people to inspire, educate or just vent about issues surrounding those with Special Educational Needs. We genuinely hope that you or someone you know will find it worthwhile.
