Last minute decision to spend the weekend at the seaside! Fab grass pitch with all the room we want. Cycled all the way along the beach promenade from Mablethorpe to Huttoft beach and back - 11 miles - followed by a well deserved fish and chips. And a bit of Olympic Hockey and Épée to round off a rather lovely day!!

Our last day of our holibobs. The extra day by the Lake meant we had to do a good run today to get close to Calais. The first stopover spot we found was a bit strange and people stared at us, so we drove on and found this gem. Wish we’d have got here earlier because I would’ve loved to visit the Museum. Free stop, totally on our own, homemade pizza and a new friend who’s stolen my chair!! 😻 https://www.leblockhaus.com/en

The plan today was to ride round the Lake. Only 19km. It was absolutely fabulous, even when the heavens opened and we got soaked. Luckily we have a water tap on our pitch so everything got hosed down and the mud cleaned off. Its lovely and sunny now but we’re hiding in the van trying to avoid the midge and flying ant invasion. 🪰🪰🪰🪰🪰🪰🪰🪰🪰

Yesterday we started our drive back towards France and picked an overnight stay near Baden Baden. However it wasn’t great, so first thing this morning we set off again. A couple of hours driving and we have found this absolute beaut of a place - a pitch on the Lake! It’s really humid and a storm is brewing somewhere so tonight we are chilling and watching the football. ⚽️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Decided to plonk ourselves in a spot for a few days and Blaubeuren is one of those places I always wanted to visit. Beautiful quaint village with the bluest natural spring. We did a 5km walk round the woods, stopping at the Kneipp Verein (basically a healing walk in freezing water 🥶😆) then back to the town where Clint had the biggest salad I’ve ever seen. Too many photos to post and despite melting in the heat it was just lovely !!

The real reason we were in Ingolstadt. . Looking at Audi’s from the 1930’s in the Museum, right up to the new SQ6 Etron in the showroom, a mere snip at €112,000! Couldn’t even afford the keyrings!! 😆

Just to prove that we did more than just drink beer and watch football yesterday. Gloriously sunny day for a walk round Ingolstadt, €1 to visit an Armoury, yummy Gröstl, Sausages & Sauerkraut, Weißbier and I even found a Woolies!! (Closed though coz it was Sunday) All in all, a rather marvellous day!!

Ferry trip across to Meersburg for a walk up a hill to a Castle, an old one!! Mandatory Aperol Spritz with lunch then a shufty through the small town. More painted buildings and quirky statues. Nice slow day followed by fajitas and football ⚽️ in the van!! Olé

No sun today so we got the bikes out and went to Mainau - The Flower Island. Plants, birds, animals & butterflies. Totally lovely day. Took too many photos to post! 🦋There’s never too many photos of cats though !! 🐈

Lovely lazy walk around Konstanz today. Free bus tickets were rather wonderful and took us straight into the Altstadt. A town of flowers, painted hotels, curious signs, airships and statues. 💐🎨🐘🗿❤️

Finally arrived at our home for a few days, right on the Lake. Weather was cold and miserable yesterday so was a bit worried but today is glorious sunshine ☀️ Brilliant pitch and the guy on reception was super helpful and friendly. Also gave us free bus tickets! Van is tidy, bird feeders 🦅 are up, squirrel’s 🐿️ already paid us a visit and saw Otters 🦦 at the Lake!

Last stop before we get to our booked campsite. Another totally random parkup, at a train station in the Black Forest. We’re about 1000m above sea level and the change in the weather is crazy. 🥶 Been for a short walk in the woods and found these random carvings and a grave! Been visited by a huge wild hare but it bolted before I could get a pic. Clint & I are now doing Springwatch Live from the van to see if it comes back. 🐇😆

Stay no. 3 - lovely spot at the Marina. Clint had to get his wallet out 😫 but for €12 we can fill up with fresh water, empty all the waste tanks & connect up to the electric. Champion!! Not had chance to wander about yet but off for some food in a mo. Getting a few specks of rain but it’s expected to blow over so hopefully it’ll be a nice dry walk into town! Hourra!! 🇫🇷🍻

Absolutely amazing stop-over. We were just looking for a place close to Reims and found Hautvillers, home of Dom Perignon & Champagne. When in Rome and all that 😉….. Parked close to the village in a free spot. And the weather is glorious. Salut!! 🥂

First stop of our 2024 trip. Less than an hour from Calais, a little parking spot next to a lake. Took a punt on getting a space and we’re the only ones here!! And only €4.50. Curry for tea and a well deserved beer!

So our last day before home, and we’re in Belgium!!! Never visited Ieper before so we decided on a quick visit. We visited the In Flanders Fields Museum and then I saw a beautiful little Belgian Chocolate shop. Was buying assorted Pralines when I spotted a load of old Police helmets in the back room of the shop. I asked the shop owner about them and he said that they belong to Officers who come to play the Last Post. When I told him what I do he said he had some for Derbyshire Police and I could go take a look. So I’m now in the back room of a Chocolate Shop looking at Police Helmets!! Totally surreal! I bought a lot of chocolate!!!
Finally we went down to The Menin Gate for the Last Post. Unfortunately it is under scaffolding so no nice photos. We stayed at the back of the crowds , paid our respects and afterwards I asked the buglers for a photo! 📸 Now time for a glass of wine to raise a toast to 2 fabulous weeks!!

Good morning from our last holiday day!! ☹️ Got a lot of driving out of the way yesterday to get close to Calais and make the last few days a bit more relaxing. Ended up on a nice Camperstop in Arras. More like a Car park but massive parking spots and free electric. We were dwarfed by an absolutely mahoosive Motorhome next to us. Anyway, short walk along the canal to Heroes Square, which was so pretty. And so busy! I think there was a festival on because there was loud 80’s music playing. Amazingly the music stopped dead at 11pm so still got a peaceful sleep. 💤💤 Now we are on our way to our last town, with a short lunch stop at a pretty little French restaurant!! 🍔

Lovely ‘restful’ day yesterday cycling along the river. Didn’t check the distance between bridges and ended up doing about 20 miles!! Found a strange lunch stop - La Guingette du Hangar - which was about to shut but they made an exception for us! Must’ve looked hungry!

Slowly making our way north now and we’ve come to a rather lovely campsite on the Loire. Just turned up and asked if they had space. The lovely lady on Reception invited me to wine tasting tonight and beach yoga tomorrow. 😳 And there’s chickens and wabbits! We plan on staying here till Friday, chilling and doing quite a bit of cycling along the river! Suns out, and so is the hat 👒

So today we found a small town that must be the saddest place I’ve ever been. (And I’ve been to a few). Found by accident whilst looking for a camper stop for the night. Sorry for the wiki link but it’s the best explanation of the place. Absolutely awful experience but right that the town has been left as a memorial.

Threw it down all day yesterday so we decided to make it a driving day. Going north through Germany was cancelled after seeing the rain reports and we set off west. After 6 hrs driving we arrived at Nieul, where the free parking spot was full and the people stared at us as we drove round. (Jealous obviously 😉) So we set off for the next town. The stop was a bit iffy, but free and we needed a rest. Fate struck again because we found Oradour-sur-Glane………

Had the mother of all thunderstorms last night, with every dog in every other camper barking away all night, poor souls! Another day in Annecy seemed pointless so 📌 Pin in the Map time!! The van is ready for a refresh so we decided to venture north and found a proper campsite in what seems like the quietest place ever. We were given a disabled pitch right outside the toilets. 🤨 And Clint found it hilarious that the only way to reach the hook up was to climb up a slope and risk breaking an ankle getting back down. Maybe that’s why it’s a disabled space. 🩼🩼 Anyhoo, van batteries recharged, laundry done, tanks refilled and now busy doing absolutely nothing!!

Early start to get a ticket on the Aiguille de Midi, Mont Blanc cable car. A minute walk from the Van but no more morning tickets left and they won’t sell more until they’ve checked the afternoon weather. So we decide to drive to Italy and try the (more expensive) Skyway Monte Bianco - spinning Gondolas with panoramic views of the mountains! The following video explains why we have turned around and given up on Mountains for the time being. Back on the road then……..
