Take a 'virtual' walk across the nearly 500 meter long Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge. It's the longest suspension bridge in the Alps and you can walk the real thing on the Walker's Haute Route or on the Tour of Monte Rosa.

A less common viewing angle of Mont Blanc. This is the view from the Tour du Beaufortin rather than the Tour du Mont Blanc. You can spot the Col du Bonhomme and the refuge de la Croix du Bonhomme which you will pass on the Tour du Mont Blanc.

Animals like bears and wolves have long been gone from the Mont Blanc region, chased away by the presence of people or shot by local hunters and farmers. However, with people in confinement due to the Corona virus, a lone wolf has been spotted below the cables of the Aiguille du Midi cable car, literally a few hundred meters above the centre of Chamonix. A wonderful return of nature!

Many of you will have visited the ice cave in the Mer de Glace glacier on our walks in Chamonix. Sadly this glacier, like most other glaciers, is rapidly receding and the time is now running out for the ice cave. This is a very visible impact of the alarming rate of global warming and should act as yet another reminder of the need to do whatever we can to reverse this trend.

Amazing time hiking the Dolomites Haute route

Last weeks Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc - UTMB seems like a short jog in comparison with the Swiss Peaks Trail which is currently underway. The runners will cover 360km and climb 25,500 meters (that’s like climbing Mount Everest from sea level to the summit THREE times!!!).

The race travels across the Swiss Alps on sections of our Haute Route trips so our Haute Route group which is currently on its way to Cabane Mont Fort will be cheering the runners as they pass.

C’est parti! The 2019 Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc - UTMB is on it’s way. For the next 48 hours the trails around Mont Blanc will be buzzing with runners taking part in the World’s most famous ultra trail running event. Good luck to everyone!
