A tiny hermit’s cell built into the cliff at St Govan’s, near Bosherston, South Pembrokeshire. Count the steps down and up again – legend has it that the number is never the same!

St Govans Chapel
This stone chapel is carved out of the cliffs on the Pembrokeshire Coast, and is only accessible by descending 52 stone steps. Built to honour the hermit St Govan who lived alone here during the 6th century, it’s a wonderfully atmospheric place. Today In the chapel of St Govan you can see a small crevice where St Govan hid from villagers. In this crevice you will also see marks like the imprint of ribs upon the rock surface. Local custom says if you turn 3 times within the crevice, fulfilment of your wish will be granted!
