Redcliffe Road: 2006 vs 2023.

18 years ago, few thought that the peaceful Redcliffe Road above Oddicombe Beach was in any imminent danger. But it was.

Concerning signs appeared just a year later, in 2007, when cliff falls resulted in the part-closure of Oddicombe Beach and the historic Gentlemen's bathing place. Soon, the coastal path that looped around the one-acre garden of the house at the end of Redcliffe Road was closed to the public.

The 1930s Ridgemont House was one of the finest of that era in Torquay, but became infamous after being sold in 2010 to a telephone bidder from London who had never seen it. The hammer fell at £155,000. It was the last time the house was ever sold, and was declared unsafe just one week later.

Ridgemont House and a huge section of the old coastal path collapsed into the sea in 2013. The Gentlemen's Bathing Place was covered by the cliff fall, and the sea was red for a very long time afterwards. The scars are still healing today.
