Round the Island in Top 5 Cycle Routes in the UK & Ireland!🚴

Global travel site Big 7 Travel has just released its ranking of the 'Best Cycle Routes in the UK and Ireland' - chosen by cyclist enthusiasts - and the Isle of Wight's Round the Island Route makes it into the top 5.🤩

"With more than 200 miles of cycle lanes and paths crisscrossing the Island, the Isle of Wight is a popular spot for cyclists, both novice and experienced. But for a special challenge, there’s the Round the Island.☀️

"The 60-mile route circles the entire Island, offering plenty of opportunities to make the most of the Island’s breathtaking sea views and meandering countryside. You can pick the route up anywhere, but most people tend to begin close to the ferry terminals at either Yarmouth or Cowes. From here, you can cycle clockwise or anti-clockwise, either tackling the whole route in one or stopping at small towns along the way to split the ride into more manageable smaller sections.”🏝

Britain’s best walking event, the Isle of Wight Walking Festival, is back and now celebrating its 25th year. Thank you organisers👏👏

As part of the festival, on Friday 17 May, I’ll be leading walkers 🙋‍♂️ around part of the Warrior Trail, which takes in the countryside where Warrior, the famous original War Horse, spent his days with my g-g uncle, Jack, before they both went off to France in World War I.

If you want to know more about Warrior’s stomping ground, please click the link to sign up! Please book early as it's been full the last couple of years.

Along the walk, as well as Warrior’s life and times, I throw in a bit of: Island scandal, dinosaurs, artists, the natural world and the last major cavalry charge in British Military history and how it stopped the Germans dividing the French and British armies.

Oh, and Winnie the Pooh's real life connection to Warrior and the Island.

The Island’s largest and most iconic fundraising event, award-winning Walk the Wight provides something for everyone, with the epic Full Walk, two Half Walks, a flat, wheelchair/pushchair accessible route, plus an option to take part at your own pace, in your own time.
