Once upon a time there were 3 wise men who decided to make a church, Now to decide where the church is to be built they decide to kill some sheep (eagles in those days use to feast on sheep meat since sheep's are in abundance in the mountainous regions of Georgia), the place where the eagles leave the bones is where they would built the church. That's how it came to be built on the right bank of the river Chkheri river, under Mount Kazbek.

In addition there are 3 secret rooms situated in this church which are believed to belong to each of these three men. In the earlier days it was used to store important icons or symbols. St. Ninos cross was also stored here once.
