What is an Eco Lodge?

To understand the concept of Eco Lodge, let us first look at Eco Tourism and what it is all about.

Ecotourism is catering for tourists wishing to experience the natural environment without damaging it or disturbing its habitats. It is a form of tourism involving responsible travel to natural areas, conserving the environment, and improving the well-being of the local people.

an integral part of ecotourism is the promotion of

✅Recycling

✅Energy efficiency

✅Water conservation and

✅Creation of economic opportunities for local communities.

For these reasons, ecotourism often appeals to advocates of environmental and social responsibility.

Since the 1980s, ecotourism has been considered a critical endeavor by environmentalists, so that future generations may experience destinations relatively untouched by human intervention.

Safari Valley anyone?

But how much will it cost to spend a night here?

Safari Valley is a luxury resort, the current reigning champion when it comes to resorts in Ghana 🇬🇭

It is gaining popularity among the upper class and notoriety within the middle class as a Bougie playground owing to the fact that you have to actually drop from 600ghc- 950ghc (unconfirmed) just to "waka pass"

To spend a night it costs a whooping sum of $1200 double occupancy a night to $3200 for a chalet that can take six adults.

By now it is obvious local tourism patronage was not inclusive in the owners grand vision.

As we watch the African Disney land develop stage by stage we can only hope that one day it will be the Pride, Joy and the symbol of luxury Tourism in Ghana that can compete with international famous rich hideaways like Monaco, the Palms in Dubai and of course Santorini in its own rights.

10 BEAUTIFUL EXPERIENCES AND AWESOME PLACES TO VISIT IN AND AROUND KETA

(Come let’s go to Keta)

Would like to share 10 awesome experiences and sights to see awaiting you when you visit Keta:

NEATEST SANDY BEACH IN GHANA
The Keta Beach is without a shred of doubt the neatest in Ghana with a clear water to swim in. It also has a flat sandy Beach and very beautiful beach sand.
And then Keta has seen a few beautiful beach front resorts and Restaurants springing up like Wakati Beach Resort and Cocobay Beach Bar and Grill.

GOLDEN SAND WITH SPARKLES
The Keta sand has a natural golden color just as you would see in Maldive, and they sparkle in the sunshine like powdered diamonds scattered all over the sandy beaches.
It is also a dirt free Beach sand so you would definitely enjoy walking barefoot on the beaches.

SUNRISE IN KETA OVER THE OCEAN
Sunrise in Keta over the Atlantic Ocean is always spectacular and very refreshing to watch every morning around 5:40am.
You would be mesmerized by the beauty and golden glow of the early morning rising sun.

SUNSET IN KETA OVER THE LAGOON
Sunset over the Keta Lagoon is just as spectacular as the sunrise. You need to watch the sun set at around 5pm from the Keta Lagoon Resort areas to truly appreciate the beauty. The sun creates some beautiful reflections with its rays in the sky and among the clouds.

CAPE ST.PAUL LIGHTHOUSE IN WOE
This Lighthouse is the oldest in Ghana and there’s only 2 types of this kind of lighthouse with skeletal structures in the world. It was built in 1901 and is a historical monument worth visiting.

FORT PRINZENSTEIN
This is the only slave dungeon situated east of the Volta River and still stands despite the sea chopping huge chucks of it through erosion.
The Fort was built by the Danes in 1784 and sold to the British in 1850. Although the sea has eaten chunks away, it still has a lot of history to be seen and told.

ECO FRIENDLY AND LUXURIOUS HOTELS
Keta is fast developing into a hub for luxurious hotels like The Chill River Resort in Anyanui, Eli Beach Resort & Hotel in Tegbi, Aborigines BEACH Resort in Dzelukope, Agblor LODGE and Beach Resort also at Dzelukope, Splendid Hotel Tegbi Ghana among others.
And then we have strictly eco friendly hotels like Meet Me There African Home Lodge in Dzita and Paps Beach Camp in Agorkedzi.

BEACH BONFIRE NITES
One of the interesting experiences is having a bonfire on the beach with some Acoutic musical performances and Peotry recitals, or even a Borborbor group playing around the fire on the beach.

VARIETY OF FOODS TO ENJOY
The Anlo people love good food and Keta is one of the places where cooking is an Art for the women. From to to the many varieties of we have and its combination soups and stews like and , would definitely make you want to marry a Keta woman or make friends with one.

BOAT CRUISE ON THE VOLTA RIVER ESTUARY AT ANYANUI
The Volta River enters the sea at various places around Anyanui to a few Islands on the Volta River. You would definitely enjoy a boat cruise on the Volta River to Ada and back.

Would tell you a lot more about the many experiences you can have in and around Keta. And would get to show you as well, but then for now help make June a Keta experience month and spread the hashtag.

Achimota College was founded in Achimota, Gold Coast (now Ghana) in 1924 by Dr. James Emman Kwegyir Aggrey, Rev. Alexander Garden Fraser, and Sir Gordon Guggisberg, the British Governor of the Gold Coast (1919-1927), as an elite secondary school based on the British model of public education. Governor Guggisberg urged local Gold Coast residents to create the institution to provide teacher training, technical training, and secondary schooling for the colony. The Governor’s request came after a committee he appointed in 1920 to investigate education in the Gold Coast, recommended establishing a secondary boarding school for boys. The committee also recommended its location, in the coastal town of Achimota, about ten miles from Accra, the capital of the Gold Coast.

Born and raised in the Gold Coast Colony, Dr. Aggrey served as a teacher and secretary of the Aborigines Rights Protection Society before going on to the United States where he earned a B.A. at Livingstone College, a small African American institution in North Carolina, and his Ph.D. from Columbia University. Desiring the involvement of Dr. Aggrey in founding Achimota, Governor Guggisberg acceded to all three terms set forth by Dr. Aggrey: African members of staff occupy an equal position to Europeans; appointments would be the discretion of the principal, rather than the colonial government; and the school would teach children as young as six. Even though Guggisberg’s Committee recommended that girls not be admitted, Dr. Aggrey and Rev. A. G. Fraser stipulated that Achimota must be coeducational.

Achimota College hired staff before there were buildings, so that teachers could study the local languages, establish local interest, and gain experience teaching in Gold Coast schools. On January 28, 1927, Achimota was formally opened with 120 students. The College was government-funded and in a unique break from missionary education tradition, it was interdenominational, with students and staff practicing their own denomination of Christianity. Additionally attending religious services was optional.

In 1948 Achimota College became three separate institutions, the University College of the Gold Coast (now the University of Ghana), the Achimota Teacher Training College, and Achimota School. Achimota College still operates today as Achimota School under the oversight of the Ghana Education Service, providing a senior high school education to young women and men.

Forts and Castles in Ghana 🇬🇭

Ghana has about 72 Forts and Castles intact or in ruins. Castles and forts were built and occupied at different times by traders from Portugal, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Holland, Germany and Great Britain. They served the gold trade of European chartered companies. Lately, they have played an important role in the development of the slave trade, and therefore in the history of the Americas, then in the 19th century, in the suppression of this trade.

There are 28 separate properties on the list, including three chateaux; fifteen forts; four forts partially in ruins; four ruins with visible structures; and two sites with traces of ancient fortifications. UNESCO has listed 32 forts and castles along the coast of Ghana as World Heritage sites. “These buildings bear witness to the once flourishing trade between the indigenous African people and the European trading companies of Portugal, the Netherlands, Denmark, England, France, Sweden and the Brandenburg of German Prussia. Ghana's history of administration, justice, religion, healthcare and even architecture has its roots in these ancient relics.

Makola Market is one of the largest trading centres in Ghana, situated in the center of Accra...

Makola was a Yoruba expression which meant 'lucky child', and referred to the practice of parents who sent a child to start selling in the market in order to bring good luck.

Thus, the original form of the expression may well have been 'Ọmọ ko ọla wọle', meaning 'The child brings wealth home..
