On the sixth of January, the Christmas holidays in Greece officially come to an end with the ‘festival of light’ (‘ton foton’ in Greek), also known as Epiphany.
On Epiphany, the Greek Orthodox Church performs the ‘Great Blessing of the Waters’. The tradition is that a priest, surrounded by brave young men and boys, throws a cross into the sea.
The minute the cross leaves the priest’s hand, the divers jump into the freezing water to catch the cross. The lucky one who finds and returns the cross is blessed by the priest.
Time flies by so fast when you are doing something that you love ❤️ In 2024 we celebrate 10 years of offering our services and hospitality to our beloved guests. Sign in with your Facebook, Google or Email at www.skamagkas.com and unlock an extra 10% discount throughout 2024 😊😊

Right next to our BBQ area, inside a small palm tree, a blackbird mum decided to make a nest for her babies 😊❤️
Translating my father’s words as he describes this beautiful event; “Next to the BBQ, a blackbird has made her nest for her two small birdies. We will not disturb them, we will let her nurture them. There’s also a small egg inside the nest, this baby bird hasn’t come out yet”

👉 Lera cave in Stavros, One of the best places to visit for our adventure seeking guests 😎 Upon entering inside, the place is full of stalagmites and stalactites and you can see the worship chambers used during the old times.
#leracave #stavros #mountains #skamagkas #instaview #instagood The cave Lera or Pan is formed at the west slopes of the steep mount Vardies, at an altitude of 70m, above the lagoon of Stavros, around 15km north east of Chania. The cave took its name after the chieftain of Cape Akrotiri, Stephanos Leras, who was hiding around the area between 1821 and 1833. Excavations by K. Davaras certified its use from the Neolithic to the Byzantine period, with the important findings being the inscriptions of the Classical period mentioning the worship of god Pan and the Nymphs.
