Next Saturday, August-31 st. Mandali organises a "harvestwalk" with our 4 donkeys in the area of Kournas. We will start at the square in the village at 9:30 a.m.
The walk is for free; afterwards, we can chat, drink, or have lunch in one of the taverns in the village.

Toen we de ezels naar de galeppa hadden gebracht, kwamen we op de terugweg lang de Agios Dimitri kerk en tot onze vreugde had men nu de kraan aangesloten en was er water. Er hingen zlefs 2 glazen aan een standaard. Geweldig!!!

Do you know that...? - Old bees don't return to the hive in the evening? They spend the night on flowers, and if they have the chance to see another sunrise, they resume their activity by bringing pollen or nectar to the colony. They do this sensing that the end is near. No bee waits to die in the hive so as not to burden the others. 🐝🐝🐝 - Bees have cold blood like all insects, yet at the colony level, they are a warm mega-organism. 🐝🐝🐝 - There are bees that bring pollen and bees that bring nectar, never will a pollen-collecting bee change its task to bring nectar and vice versa. 🐝🐝🐝 - Although dandelions are yellow, their pollen collected by bees turns orange in the mixing urn with nectar. 🐝🐝🐝 - The record for keeping a bee colony alive during winter was 356 days without them going out for cleansing flights. 🐝🐝🐝 - Bees can be useful to humans even after they have died, as they are used in the form of poultices to treat joint pain. 🐝🐝🐝 - Bees never sleep. Zoë is our guarding donkey: she hears and sees everything and everybody in the area of the donkeyfield. During breakfast she sees and hears Arno and Ari walking in the backyard and her ears go in the direction of the sound and her mouth stops chewing.

We now used the wildlife camera to see what Ari is doing at night: nothing special: just sleeping, looking into the street and making his bed.

A few weeks ago we made a motorbike tour in the Apokoronas to visit one of the oldest olivetrees on Crete in Samonas.

Ski event on the psiloritis

Popy, onze oudste ezel (bijna 26 jaar) is vaak wat stijf en stram, vooral in de winter. Zij houdt van de zonnewarmte. En wat zien we op de camera? Zodra de zon op het veld schijnt, doet ze haar 'zonnegroet yoga oefening" en gaat lekker in de zon opwarmen.

We hebben de wildlife camera nu eens in de schuilstal gehangen om te zien wat de ezels daar doen 's nachts. Nu, dat is niet zoveel: ze lopen af en toe erin en eruit, ze lopen eens van links naar rechts en een of twee ezels hadden de afgelopen nacht in de schuilstal gepoept!!! Het was droog, niet zo koud, dus waarom ze dit deden??? Dat doen ze normaal alleen als het echt rotweer is en dan snappen we het ook. Ik kon niet zien wie het gedaan heeft. Het was net buiten bereik van de camera. Eos en Popy hebben 's nachts wel even een minuut of 10 gelegen. Eos viel bijna in slaap. We zagen nog 2 andere dieren in de schuilstal, een egel en een meesje.

Naast een das en een eekhoorn heeft onze wildlife camera nu ook een marter op het veld bij de ezels gefilmd.
