Sardine run in Moalboal

Last weekend I represented Dive Philippines and talking about various dive destinations in Philippines.

One of the dsetination that I like is Moalboal on the west coast of Cebu island.Located in Tañon strait and the most famous feature in there is The humongous ball of Sardines.

The history of Sardines here is quite interesting.The massive school of Sardine resided in Pescador island by late 2011 to 2013 and disappeared until 2015 they come back to Moalboal again just off shore of the tourist busiest beach in the area "Panagsama beach"

I think the reason that Sardines chose to reside here because it's safe for them.We saw some predators around like school of Trevally.Some people lucky to see Thresher shark hunting on Sardines occasionally.But compare to the massive scale of Sardines ball all this predation are just immaterial.

Since then they're here 24hrs/7d.But how long they will be here?Only time will tell?

สุดสัปดาห์ที่แล้วที่ได้เป็นตัวแทนการท่องเที่ยวประเทศฟิลิปปินส์พูดถึงจุดดำน้ำที่ฟิลิปปินส์หลายๆจุด ได้รับความสนใจพอสมควร เลยอยากนำภาพจากจุดที่พูดถึงมาแชร์อีกสักครั้ง

หนึ่งในจุดที่ผมชอบพอสมควรคือ Moalboal ทางชายฝั่งด้านตะวันตกของเกาะCebu ตั้งอยุ่ในช่องแคบTañon สิ่งที่มีชื่อเสียงมากที่สุดของจุดดำน้ำที่นี่คงหนีไม่พ้น ฝูงปลาซาร์ดีนขนาดโคตรมหึมา

มีเรื่องราวที่น่าสนใจเกี่ยวกับฝูงซาร์ดีนที่นี่คือ ฝูงปลาฝูงนี้ได้ย้ายที่ไปมาจนกระทั่งปี 2011ถึง2013 พวกมันได้เลือกที่จะอาศัยอยู่ที่เกาะที่ชื่อPescador โดยไม่หายไปไหนอยู่นาน แต่หลังจากปี 2013 พวกมันก็ได้หายสาบสูญไปอย่างไร้ร่องรอย โดยมีข่าวลือต่างๆนานาว่าโดนเรือประมงจับไปบ้าง หรือมันย้ายไปโผล่ที่นู่นที่นี่ จนกระทั่งเกือบสองปีผ่านไปพวกมันก็โผล่มาอีกครั้งที่หน้าหาดPanagsama ซึ่งเป็นหาดที่นักท่องเที่ยวพลุกพล่านมากที่สุดในบริเวณนั้น ทีนี้ใครๆก็สามารถว่ายน้ำดูฝูงซาร์ดีนนี้ได้อย่างไม่ยากเลย

ผมคิดเอาเองว่าสาเหตุที่มันเลือกหาดที่ดูไม่น่าเชื่อว่าจะเป็นที่อยู่ของปลาฝูงใหญ่ขนาดนี้ได้เพราะมันเป็นที่ๆปลอดภัยที่สุดสำหรับพวกมัน ไม่มีเรือประมง ไม่มีสัตว์นักล่ามากนัก ที่เห็นก็จะมีเพียงแค่ฝูงปลากะมงไล่ล่าพวกมันบ้าง มีคนบอกว่ามีฉลามหางดาบThresher shark เข้ามาล่าพวกมันบ้างแต่เห็นได้ค่อนข้างยาก แต่เมื่อเทียบกับขนาดของฝูงที่มโหฬาร การล่าตามธรรมชาติแบบนี้แทบไม่สะทกสะเทือนอะไรพวกมัน

ตั้งแต่พวกมันย้ายมาอยุ่ที่นี่มันก็อยู่มาตลอดทั้งวันทั้งคืน แต่ถามว่าพวกมันจะอยู่ที่นี่ไปอีกนานแค่ไหน? เวลาเท่านั้นจะให้คำตอบเรา
