Cathay Pacific has reopened The Pier First Class Lounge at Hong Kong International Airport, following an extensive renovation.

The 2,061 square meter lounge is located at Gate 63 in the north west concourse of the airport and it can seat 231.

It was designed by Studioilse, the London-based design studio led by Ilse Crawford.
The concept of a contemporary apartment is used as a framework for all elements of the lounge’s design and operation.

The Pier also provides eight Day Suites, each furnished with a comfortable daybed, a reading light, a mirror, and heavy curtains for added personal privacy.

The Pier is also fitted with 14 Showers furnished with natural limestone and timber.

Wellbeing is the core focus of The Pier First Class Lounge as a reflection of this contemporary luxury value. Complimentary foot massage is introduced for the first time in Cathay Pacific lounges to cater for passengers’ physical and emotional needs during travelling. The hope is that it will help them arrive in better shape. Neck and shoulder massages are also available on request.

The lounge is open to first class passengers, Diamond Marco Polo Club members, and Emerald oneworld members who are departing or transiting in Hong Kong. Opening hours are from 5:30am until the last departure.

Cathay Pacific opens its newly renovated lounge at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport today!

The lounge is conveniently located on Level 3 of Concourse G Departure Hall, providing easy access to all international boarding gates.

As one of the lounges Cathay Pacific operates outside Hong Kong, the Bangkok lounge offers a very considered and comfortable environment for Silver or above members of The Marco Polo Club, as well as First and Business Class passengers to enjoy before their flight.

On top of expanding the lounge area, this renovation is more than a surface-level makeover. It embodies our “Life Well Travelled” philosophy and our principles of considered design – offering passengers a relaxing and refreshing experience before flying to Hong Kong and beyond.

Designed by Studioilse, a London-based design studio led by Ilse Crawford, the aim was to create a space that engaged the senses and focused on wellbeing as a core principle. The lounge makes use of warm and natural materials such as wood and stone, while plenty of natural plant-life and local artworks add to the welcoming atmosphere. Designer furniture and lighting were also carefully selected for practicality and comfort – creating an environment that resembles a living room more than an airline lounge.

For those last-minute emails, three individual workstations with dual operating system iMacs and printers are available for use, along with free Wi-Fi access available throughout the lounge. And for your appetite, the dining area features Cathay Pacific’s iconic The Noodle Bar, which offers a selection of freshly prepared Asian noodles and authentic Thai delicacies. Passengers can also enjoy a wide range of light snacks and drinks at both the Bar and the Food Bar.

Starting from 9 June 2015, our previous Cathay Pacific First and Business Class Lounge on Level 3 of Concourse D Departure Hall will be closed. Please visit our newly renovated lounge on Level 3 of Concourse G to continue enjoying our premium lounge services before your flights from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Virgin Atlantic to fly B787-9 to Hong Kong

Virgin Atlantic starting 05Jul15 will launch Boeing 787-9 operations on London Heathrow - Hong Kong route, replacing current Airbus A340-600 aircraft. The 787 will operate on daily basis.

In addition to the aircraft change, the airline will replace existing VS200/201 flight number with VS206/207 from the same date.

The 787 Dreamliner is configured with 31 Upper Class, 35 Premium Economy and 198 Economy seats.

Qatar Airways to fly to Amsterdam

GULF carrier Qatar Airways is geared to launch its news Hong Kong - Amsterdam route to start on 16 June, transiting via Hamad International Airport in Doha.

The Doha - Amsterdam route will operate a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, with 22 fully-flat-bed seats in business class and 232 in economy class, The six-weekly service, except Tuesdays, is a codeshare flight operated by Cathay Pacific.

72-hour Chinese visa programme

The Chinese Government has been running a 72-hour visa programme at all three of our mainland Chinese gateways (Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu).

This allows customers to stay in China for 72 hours without a visa as long as they're transiting China, that is, they're flying into China from one point and departing to another point within 72 hours. Customers have to arrive at and depart from the same point in China to qualify, for example, fly to Chengdu and depart for Hong Kong from Chengdu within 72 hours.
