Did you know that our ancestors have measured the size of dead people souls?

Nowadays, at the gate of Velebit Mountain, at village Ljubotić, we still have the proof of such interesting ritual. Burial ceremony was strictly defined in the matter of procedure, which implied that dead´s person body shouldn´t touch the ground until it reaches “soul´s measuring” point. Actually, on the way from house to the cemetery, that was the only point that body was allowed to touch the ground. Even though the path was kilometers long and demanding, our ancestors were consistent all the way because of the huge moral obligation they had towards the ritual. Interesting fact is that these “souls measuring points”, locally called “mirila”, had bigger value and were more visited than graves itself.
