Gellert Bath is the most famous Art Nouveau thermal baths in Budapest, Hungary as well as in Europe. Gellert Spa, founded in 1918, is soon to be 100 years old, and visiting the bath is indeed a beautiful and historical experience. You can visit the main hall free of charge, or spend a whole day of relaxation in the “Palace of Baths” as Gellert Bath is often referred to.
There are 10 pools of various sizes and temperatures. Gellert Bath is open every day from 6 am to 8 pm, even on bank holidays. Besides the outdoor wave pool, which is a big hit in summer months, there are several geothermal pools open to both men and women. Besides, you can get massage treatments: Gellert Spa Massage, enjoy the saunas, the sun bathing terrace looking at the Gellert Hill, and relax by the geothermal pools with some beer, wine, champagne.
The Gellert Bath and Hotel itself was built in the preceding decades, and opened its doors in 1918. Outdoor pools were added later on, and today it combines modern technical developments with rich historical heritage.

Mangalica Festival in Budapest,

This gastronomic event is all about the curly-haired mangalica pig, a Hungarian heritage breed, which came close to extinction just a few decades ago. You can taste a variety of products, mainly sausages and salamis, made from mangalica meat, which is said to be more flavorful and healthier than regular pork.

The King-in-Disguise
The personage of the fifteenth century King Matthias (Mátyás in Hungarian, Matei Corvin for Romanians) has been a bone of contention between Hungarians and Romanians for ages. Gheorghe Funar, the Hungarian bashing Romanian mayor of Kolozsvár (Cluj-Napoca) in the 1990s, took the claim of Romanian history textbooks that Mátyás was of Romanian origin literally, and deleted Hungarian references from the statue of Mátyás in the main square of the city, causing a lot of inter-ethnic conflict

True, Kolozsvár was the birthplace of Mátyás, whose father, János Hunyadi (Ioan de Hunedoara), Voivode of Transylvania (1440–1456) and Regent-Governor (1446–1453) of the Kingdom of Hungary traced his ancestry back to Wallachia (Old Romania). Nevertheless, the irrational ethnic rivalry of latter centuries would hardly have made any sense in the 15th century. Hunyadi wrote himself into the history books by his decisive victory over the advancing Ottomans at Nándorfehérvár (today Belgrade) in 1456, which delayed the Turkish conquest for 70 years. Pope Callixtus III was so thrilled by the victory of Christian forces that he ordered the bells of every European church to be rung every day at noon, still an existing practice in Hungary. His younger son Mátyás continued his legacy two years after János Hunyadi’s untimely death from the plague, which he contracted at Belgrade.

The Vajdahunyad Castle
This castle looks like from the fairy tale. It is a replica of a Transylvanian castle of that name and was built to show the various architectural styles found in Hungary. The castle is situated in the City Park and surrounded by an artificial lake. There are many seasonal activities and you can easily spend a full day here.

On the left side you can see one of the stone lions situated at both abutments of Chain Bridge. This bridge was the first permanent connection between Pest and Buda, opened in the year 1849. It is an urban legend in Budapest that the lions of the Chain Bridge do not have tongues.

The Danube Day is an annual international event celebrated in 14 countries that are connected through the Danube river system. Several festivals on the banks of the river, public meetings and fun, educational events are held to bring awareness and to pay tribute to the Danube and its wildlife.

In 2015, Budapest celebrates the 11th Danube Day with several fun activities. Several programs are held on Kopaszi-gát throughout the day followed by live concerts at night.
