Tangkahan is approximately 1.5 hours drive from Bukit Lawang and well worth the trip, despite the bumpy road to get there. Enjoy Waterfalls, hot springs, rafting or having a picnic and swim by the river...and the wobbly bridges of course :)

Palm Oil Free Certification Orangutan Alliance has launched a viral campaign to remind people that it's not too late to facilitate collective change for the planet, through living a more sustainable lifestyle. Did you know that orangutans spend of their lives in the beautiful canopies of the rainforest? They need vast swathes of forest to find enough food to eat. Sadly deforestation is one of their biggest threats due to agriculture, infrastructure and fire.

Did you know that the orangutan is the largest of the arboreal animals? A fully grown male can weigh up to 100 kilos; that’s as much as 76,923 balloons, 32,000 tea bags or 200 kitties from the internet! He is also known as a Pongo, an anthropoid or great ape, or a primate. An arboreal animal means that they travel through the trees.

Mangoes are one of the orangutans favourite fruits. Sumatra is renowned for its delicious array of exotic fruits; the locals and orangutans alike love to eat the seasonal offerings directly from the trees or from the local markets. Mango and bananas are packed full of delicious sweetness, the rambutan is hairy, the soursop tastes like custard and apples, whilst the durian is the size of a bowling ball with deadly spikes and is the stinkiest of them all.
