According to the legend, Bali and Java island was once one big island. One day, and old priest by the name Mpu Siddhimantra wanted to keep his son in Bali to serve Mpu's friend; Bashuki (Dragon who reside in Mount Agung).

Manik Angkeran (the son) was a gambler. He tried to steal the dragon's tail which was made out of diamonds and gold. The dragon burned him and later revive Manik Angkeran as per Mpu Siddhimantra request.

Mpu Siddhimantra didn't want his son to come back home. He wanted Manik Angkeran to serve the dragon. Mpu Siddhimantra seperate the island with his powerful ceremonial knife (keris).
