CRYSTAL BAY - NUSA PENIDA
Although Bali is one of the world’s most underrated destinations for divers, it has some exceptionally beautiful diving sites. Crystal Bay Nusa Penida is an attractive site in this respect. Bali has a surprisingly rich underwater life, which is mainly due to the fact that it is located between two great oceans, the Indian ocean and the Pacific.

As a result of this ideal position, an enormous flow of water passes between Bali and Nusa Penida depositing plankton larvae that attract a high diversity of fish.

ANGLE'S BILLABONG - NUSA PENIDA
Nusa Penida’s secret get aways, affectionately named by our homestay owner as Angel’s Billabong. Climbing down the rugged coral reef presents a daring little challenge, but it certainly pays off once you reach the pool. I know the greenish bottom may seem slippery, but they’re definitely not moss. In fact, it felt so comfortable to walk on that carpet-like bottom. Some parts can be pretty deep and become homes to various kinds of fish. Forget Marina Bay Sands, this is the definite infinity pool.

WONDERFUL SOUTH OF NUSA PENIDA

The south side of the island is renowned for high cliffs, panoramic views, blue seas and beaches accessible only by boat.

Our package includes: hotel or harbour pick up and drop off; tour by car or scooter; experienced, knowledgeable guide; bottled water

PUNCAK MUNDI
Located at the centre of the island and 524 metres above sea level, this is the highest point on the island. Set at the end of the road, Pura Puncak Mundi is a temple worth visiting. Wearing a sarong is a must but it is well worth it to see the ornate architecture. Monkeys are sometimes spotten at this location but be warned they are not friendy.

PEGUYANGAN WATERFALL & SPRING
Climb down 700 blue steps set against the cliff will bring you to the natural spring which feeds into pools and then into the ocean. Take a swim at the bottom or just rest for a while. enjoy the magnificent scenery and take a photo or two.

TEMBELING RAINFOREST
For nature lovers who enjoy flora, this is the place for you. A cool, shady paradise that encases the last vestiges of indigenous rain forest on the island.

Local culture specifies that men and women bathe separately so there are two sets of pools, the larger “mens pool” and lower down towards the ocean a “womens pool”. Bring your swimming attire and enjoy a dip in the shade.

Completing the walk will bring you out on the sandy beach, another great place to take photos of the rock formations in the sea. Alternatively one can climb through a narrow opening in the rock near the beach and walk right into a new bay with stunning cliff walls.

BANAH CLIFF
Further along from Tembeling forest the road traverses along the limestone cliff tops which lead to unprecedented panoramic views over the southern ocean. Unique rock formations stand out of the ocean with wild seas continuously washing up against them. This is a landscape photographers paradise. Pease exercise caution as you are responsible for your own safety here.

CAR TEMPLE (PURA PALUANG)
Set 200 metres above sea level on limestone cliffs Pura Paluang dominates the skyline and has a stunning backdrop of cliffs and blue seas.

The temple was built by the people of Karang Dawa. The car sculptures were put there in remembrance of the old dutch colonial cars they witnessed passing by, possibly between the years 1920 - 1940. The cars were venerated and were aspirations of a better future.

KLINGKING BEACH
Continuing on from Banah cliff we come around to Karang Dawa viewpoint also known as Klingking beach. This is the view of Karang Dawa taken from above. Another spot to stop at to take in the sheer magnificence that is Nusa Penida.

SUNSET PANORAMIC OF NUSA PENIDA ISLAND.

The west side of the island is one of the most popular with visitors with so much to see and do. It's particularly good in the morning for snorkelling at Crystal, Gamat bay and Toyapakeh harbour but also good for sundowners and photos later in the afternoon.

Our package includes: hotel or harbour pick up and drop off; tour by car or scooter; experienced, knowledgeable guide; bottled water.

TOYAPAKEH VILLAGE
This quaint little seaside village oozes charm and is also a hive of activity. With a couple of warungs serving food and cold drinks right on the beach it’s a great place to sit and watch the boats coming and going.

Situated in the west of the island it is also great for sundowners on the beach. Toyapakeh also has an early morning market providing fresh food and vegetables and other items to locals.

CRYSTAL BAY
Drive through the scenic hills and and arrive at the beach that is known as Crystal Bay (the locals know it as Penida beach). Home to sparkling, clear waters with magnificent corals and tropical fishes. This is a popular spot for both snorkelers, divers and those that just want to enjoy the sun and pristine white sand set amidst beautiful scenery. It's really easy to access this beach by car or scooter.

Looking out at the sea, you will see a small temple set high on a rocky island. To the left of the beach are stairs which will take you up and over to neighbouring Pandan beach. Crystal bay is the perfect place to finish your day with a sundowner and camera in the other hand.

GAMAT BAY
It takes a little more effort to walk down the hill to the beach but once you do you will be rewarded with the most amazing snorkelling experience, a kaleidescope of colours and varieties.

This bay is uninhabited and due to access taking more effort, it is often quite deserted so you could just have it to yourself!

BROKEN BEACH / ANGEL BILLABONG & SMOKY BAY
A popular destination with three attractions close to one another. This side of the island is known for its high cliffs and panoramic views.

Smoky bay is at its best at high tide. Waves crash against the cliffs sending a resounding boom sound through the air. The impact sends a burst of water into the air which gives the appearance of smoke hence the name.

We continue onwards to Broken Bay (Pasih Uug) situated a little further along the road. Once, a large cave accessed only by sea, it has lost its roof to become a magnificent gaping hole in the earth. Walk right around it or stand near the edge and look down at the beautiful blue waves coming onto a beach that can still only be accessed by boat in the right conditions.

Walking a short distance around weathered, volcanic rocks will bring you to Angel Billabong. At low tide it becomes an infinity pool, if you dare to climb down you can take a swim.

THE BEAUTY OF EAST NUSA PENIDA ISLAND
The east side of the island is renowned for its rugged beauty and beautiful sunrises overlooking big oceans. Sparsely populated it is yours to enjoy for a moment in time.

Our package includes:
Hotel or harbor pick up and drop off; tour by car or scooter; experienced, knowledgeable guide; bottled water.

PURA GOA GIRI PUTRI (PRINCESS CAVE TEMPLE)
Climb the stairs, pause on the way to enjoy the magnificent vistas over the bay before you arrive at the Hindu shrine (pelinggih) of Hyang Purusha and Hyang Gana Pati at the entrance to the cave.

Then it's time to hire a sarong and climb through the deceptively small entrance which leads into an enormous cave that can accommodate about 5,000 people, the cave is about 300 metres in length and runs the entire width of the hill. There are four hindu shrines in the cave: Hyang Sapta Patala; Dewi Gangga; Dewi Uma and Giri Putri. Near the exit is an altar dedicated to the Buddhist goddess Dewi Kwan Im, the goddess of mercy and compassion who relieves suffering.

SEAWEED FARMING AT KARANG SARI
Seaweed farming is a relatively new addition to the island of Nusa Penida having started around 1984. Much of the northern coastal waters of the island have been cleared to make way for seaweed farms. Two types of seaweed are farmed, one takes 15 days until harvest, the other 30 days. Farmers are at the mercy of the tides as they can only farm at low tide.

Recent years have seen a decline in quantity, one reason is due to drier conditions which do not favour growth. However this type of aquaculture is still a very important income provider to locals. The seaweed is dried and sent overseas to be used as an ingredient in cosmetics, the other type is used as an additive in food (agar).

ATUH BEACH
The beauty of the east coast is showcases by Atuh beach and surrounding area. Rolling hills give way to high cliffs with panoramic views out to the ocean as far as the eye can see. Crystal clear, blue waters lap the edges of sandy white beaches.

This is a photographers paradise especially at sunrise. If you are up for a bit of a hike, we can take the steps down to Atuh beach for a well earned swim.

SUWEHAN BEACH
A stones throw from Atuh beach we come across Suwehan beach. Another breathtaking panoramic view and another hike down to the beach to reap the rewards. Do not forget your camera.

TRADITIONAL WEAVING
Traditional weaving at Tanglad village Part of the rich culture and tradition of the island can be seen in the cloth weaving. Traditionally, locals used to spin their own thread from locally grown cotton, however the harsh, dry climate did not suit cotton growing. This almost lead to the demise of weaving as locals moved to the coastal towns to engage in other types of work. Luckily it has recently been revived thus ensuring these age old skills can be passed on to new generations.
Every detail of the cloth produced has to be exact from pattern right down to the colour. The sacred fabric is called “kain cepuk” and is used in trance rituals and dance performances. The weaving process is a laborious one, some cloths can take 6 - 12 months to complete and are used in traditional ceremonies. Watching the weavers at work will give you a new appreciation for the effort that goes into making these cloths. Cloth can be purchased directly from local weavers.
