A couple of weeks ago an Australian couple, Mar and Dani joined us for our unique 2 Day combo trek.

They were lucky to spot a wild male ๐Ÿฆง chilling in a tree at Batu Kapal behind

On the first day, they explored the rocks and fragmented forests around Landak River before entering the national park for the second day.

This is our most popular trek as it combines the gunung Leuser nasional park with the fragmented forests bordering it. It supports the local community. If you'd like to know more please message us!

An Estonian family spent 2 with us in Bukit Lawang. They enjoyed a 1 day trek and walked with rescued Elephants ๐Ÿ˜ in Tangkahan.

This family had a 2 year old son, so a half day trek was more suitable for them. The son really enjoyed seeing the Elephants.

Would you or your family like to come to Bukit Lawang? Sound some time in the jungle or see the rescued Elephants. We cater for everyone: solo, couples, friend groups and families.

Thank you for these amazing photos & Rebecca, who joined us for our unique 4 Day combo trek.

They were lucky to see 5 wild Orangutans at our private fragmented forest which borders the . One of the largest straggling fig tree was fruiting and brings many Orangutans ๐Ÿฆง to come to feast on the fruits.

They were then taken to Batu Katak for another 2 days trek. Thanks to and for taking care of them.

As we've been quiet on the guest front, I've been busy finishing off the bamboo/wood shelves in the restaurant. Took me a couple of afternoons for the right side!

I've used wood (left over wood) for the shelves and bamboo for the structure. I think it works well... What do you think? I'm happy with it โ˜บ๏ธ!

To be able to slot the shelf on/into the bamboo I had to saw little slots into the bamboo. You can see on picture 3 & 4.

Another great shot by a guest of ours of the Great Argus Pheasant ๐Ÿฆš

It's just like a peacock but in the jungle. It's one of the largest pheasants measuring 160-200cm in totally length. This is a male, with its long tail and bright blue head. Female are smaller and duller, quite typical in the bottle bird world. The male birds when displaying to a female is quite spectacular... Although I've never seen it!

It is native to the jungle in Borneo, Sumatra and Malaysia.

It is classified as Vulnerable on the IUCN list, witha declining population due to habitat loss and in some areas being hunted for their plumage.

Beautiful shots of Siamang Gibbon by a recent guest.

Siamangs are native to Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. It is a primate and the largest of the Gibbon species. It is classified as Endangered due to habitat loss, but the illegal pet trade has taken a toll on wild populations.

The Siamang has large throat sac in both males and females which can be inflated to the size of their head so they can make loud calls. They 'call and sing' in the mornings simultaneously with the Lars Gibbons' calls.

The Siamangs lives in groups of 6 individuals in lowland to mountain forests up to 3800m altitude.

What a beautiful species. Not often seen, but our guests were lucky to see them twice during their 3 day trek ๐Ÿ˜.

Last week we had a Japanese couple join us for a 1 Day trek. The following day they went on a village which they wanted to focus on learning about oil palm. We took them to a friend's plantation to learn about the oil palm fruit & how they take it. The guests were also interested to learn about the environmental impact of the plantations.

In the afternoon, the guests had a tour of the local trash bank . They wanted to learn about how the trash from the local villages is cleaned and recycled. They got to see how bottle tops are melted to make products such as plant pots, soap dishes and carabiners.

A little update on our new bungalow.

With a little help of our volunteer we made some clay mud plaster by mixing clay mud with sand and wood shavings. We did this with our feet ๐Ÿพ. Then we used our hands to plaster it to the wall and stones.

Mud plaster is great... It's natural and breathable! Great for the environment and we're not using cement!

It took just 2 mornings to cover the back outside wall of the bungalow.

For the last 2 weeks we we've had Elisa volunteer with us. For the first week she was at .ecofarm helping to plant, harvest and learn how compost is made.

The second week, Elisa was with us at Landak River. She helped me make clay natural plaster and plaster the back of the bungalow wall. We also spent a couple of afternoons with a local guy who's leading the way in farming. All natural, permaculture and organic! We helped plant papaya trees, pineapple ๐Ÿ and durian.

Elisa was lucky enough to join us at a Karonese celebration wearing traditional clothes.

If your interesting in volunteering with us and want to give something back, we have several volunteering opportunities
โœณ๏ธ Volunteer with a local farmer at landak River with permaculture and organic farming
โœณ๏ธ Volunteer at our lodge - natural building techniques, social media, website, gardening, planting trees
โœณ๏ธ Teach English at a local school
โœณ๏ธ Volunteer at an eco farm

Yesterday we came across this little snake ๐Ÿ in the garden. One of my cats was playing with it, so I rescued it.

It's a Garden Flying snake Chrysopelea paradisi. It's so beautifully coloured and harmless to humans.

This is a back-fanged colubrid with weak venom, just powerful enough to kill small prey, like small lizards ๐ŸฆŽ or bats ๐Ÿฆ‡, frogs ๐Ÿธ
โœณ๏ธ The species is active by day and can be seen in a variety of habitats
โœณ๏ธIt is an adept climber, and a favoured haunt is the crown of coconut palms.
โœณ๏ธ It has the remarkable ability to glide from tree to tree - achieved by flattening the body so that the ventral surface becomes concave, and then projecting itself into the air from a high branch.
โœณ๏ธ It's believed this behaviour is to move through the cost, catch prey and a defense mechanism against predators.
โœณ๏ธ They can cover up to 100m in a single leap!
