So it's regular that we have monkeys in the garden...but these 2 males are a nightmare!
They are not scared. As you can see Dolly is barking and he's not moving. It takes a few thrown stones to move him away. But he always come back, trying to find a way into the house.

This Orangutan is a young female. Obviously not used to humans. Maybe even a new Orangutan in the area? The Orangutan was 'kiss-sqeaking' at us, because she was agitated.
It was Heri's uncle, who was taking the rubber from the trees, who shouted down to us as he was scared. He moved on to other trees away from the Orangutan. We also didn't stay for long as she didn't settle.

I discovered this Huntsman's spider above our bed. I was on my own! This sort was the size of my hand โ...eek ๐.

Well after building up some courage, I found a tuberware big enough to capture them. Put the tuberware over them and sliding a piece of cardboard underneath to remove them outside. Unfortunately, having done that, the spider let go of it prey and scurried away.

It's a Rubber root Longhorn Beetle (Batocera rubus). As you can see, it has a long pair of antennae, which are longer then it's body.
It's a wood voter borer, and can cause damage to wood logs. It feeds mainly on fig tree species, but also rubber and mango trees and other tropical fruit trees. If infected with this beetle ๐ it can kill the tree.

This is a Potters wasp, probably Rhyncium sp. taking a caterpillar ๐. The female wasp takes the caterpillar back to the nest to feed it's brood.
What a sight to see ๐!
It's a solitary wasp which builds nests from mud. The name potters wasp is derived from the shape of the mud nests.
These wasps are quite common to see around our lodge and are not aggressive. They generally will not sting.

The dance originated from Ponorongo, Java and traditionally it was only men taking part. But this performance young women were performing.
A shaman starts performing a ritual which apparently allows access to the spirits (spirits guides). The dancers 'ride' horses made woven rattan or bamboo and decorated with bright colours whilst traditional instruments, like drums, gongs, xylophones are played. As the dance continues, one by one the dancers enter a dance caused by the spirit guides.
You will see that they never blink ๐... And are like chewing.
During the trance, the dancers drink and eat flowers from a bowl transfused with oils. Rope whips are used to lead and control the dancers. As the dance continues, the dancers take on the behaviour of their spirit guide. Still in a trance, they can interact with the audience, asking for food, opening coconut ๐ฅฅ husks with their teeth or even walking on burning coals.
When the shaman decides it's time, he brings the dancers out of the trance.
It is said that the dancers do not remember what they did. They are generally exhausted after several hours of being in a trance.

A little update on our new bungalow.
With a little help of our volunteer @fly_elisa we made some clay mud plaster by mixing clay mud with sand and wood shavings. We did this with our feet ๐พ. Then we used our hands to plaster it to the wall and stones.
Mud plaster is great... It's natural and breathable! Great for the environment and we're not using cement!
It took just 2 mornings to cover the back outside wall of the bungalow.

We had a wild guest visit us last week. This young wild Orangutan ๐ฆง was passing through next to our house.
The noise it is making is called 'kiss squeaking' caused by pursing it's lips and sucking in air. This is usually made when they feel anxious or an uncertain stimulus near them.

A Giant Forest Ant (Dinomyrmex gigas)... Known as the jewel of the forest.
These are robust ants seen foraging on the forest floor.
They can have 7000 ants in the colony and can have many several nests. This with their large body size enables them to cover vast areas. One of these nests harbours the only egg-laying individual in the entire colony โ the queen ๐.
Apart from the Queen, the rest of the colony comprises of workers - sterile female ants that do all the work!
