Remarkable structures when you consider that they were built in the 10th 11th century.

Of the many Round Towers found in Ireland, County Mayo boasts five of the best well preserved round towers in Ireland. They are located at Aughagower, Balla, Killala, Meelick and Turlough.

They are magnificent relics of medieval Christian Ireland are believed to have been built between the 8th and 12th centuries and superb examples of medieval stone masonry in the County.

Whilst not all of these towers are in North Mayo, visiting and exploring these unique sites would make the perfect day trip to enjoy some Irish architecture and history.

The Cliffs of Moher in Co. Clare, 8km long and 200m high are very impressive from the top but even more impressive from the bottom. The name comes from the Gaelic word for 'ruin'. Made from Layers of sandstone and black schist, the Cliffs are home to 30 species of birds including Puffins who come ashore during the breeding season. The Cliffs are a 'must see' for all visitors to Ireland.
