Experience the Boyne Valley like never before in Ireland’s answer to Game of Thrones – the Battle of the Boyne! Take a trip back in time and learn how the Battle of the Boyne shaped Ireland’s future. Enter the Boyne navigation system and propel yourself through history. As you paddle along in the newly restored Boyne canal, you will hear and feel the sounds of batt

le. Along the boat adventure you will hear the story of the battle of the Boyne that happened over 325 years ago, but still resonates today. Will you be able to separate fact from fiction? Ireland’s Ancient East meets Westeros as the currach you travel in has starred in the hit TV show – Game of Thrones. Find out how the icon of Irish symbolism – the currach – has become part of the Game of Thrones scenery and hear stories from those who were there. As a crew of eight, you will come together and learn to paddle like a true Iron Islander. Who knows this may also be the way our ancestors helped transport the building blocks for Newgrange just 4 km upstream. Enjoy the thrill of southern Ireland’s first Game of Thrones boat experience whether you are a cultural tourist, a heritage tourist, an adventure tourist or a Game of Thrones fan this will appeal to you all. The Sealock on the Boyne Greenway is the 1st lock in the Boyne Navigation which is meticulously restored by the Boyne Navigation IWAI - Canal restoration .
Located between Drogheda and the Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre almost underneath the M1 motorway Mary McAleese bridge. The 5km greenway is a fantastic way to explore the banks of the Boyne river with the added reward of a coffee stop at the Brambles cafe in the gardens of the visitor centre at Oldbridge house.

Relax to the sounds and sights of nature. On the Historic Boyne Canal Experience this week we counted 14 different birds in a 10 minute stretch. Lots of activity making nests and fishing!
Cormorant, robin, blackbird, thrush, great tit, blue tit, wren, dunnock, wood pigeon, mallard, chaffinch, chiff chaff, blackcap and the majestic heron (earlier in the day).

As part of my Ancient Boyne River and Artisan Food Experience I've always tried to get locally sourced and produced food to celebrate the

Unfortunately two of those businesses have closed in the last few months - Stockwell Artisan Foods and South Quay Fayre in Drogheda. Best of luck to Gwen and Ronan for the future.

from Oldbridge to Navan. Disappointing initially to see that the restoration of the Boyne Navigation is to be separated out.

Fantastic night at the Meath Business and tourism awards in the Knightsbrook Hotel Spa & Golf Resort last night. It was an honour to be a finalist in the Best Tourism experience category which was won by the very deserving Navan Adventure Centre
