Tune in tomorrow, Wednesday, June 12th (at 4pm Dublin time / 11am EST) for five x 1-hour panels discussing essential topics related to sustainable development of space:
#1 (4-5pm) Use of Space Resources
#2 (5-6pm) Orbital Debris
#3 (6-7pm) Space Law and Private Entities in Outer Space
#4 (7-8pm) Sustainable Benefits 4 All Peoples of Earth
#5 (8-9pm) Sustainable Space Development and Space for Sustainability.

The roundtable will be organised by Space 18th SDG Coalition spearheaded by Space Renaissance International and National Space Society, and will be chaired by Adriano Autino/ https://spacerenaissance.space and Robert S. Katz / World Innovation Network

The results of these discussions will be submitted to the 67th General Assembly of the U. N. Committee for the Peaceful Use of Outer Space (COPUOS) on 19 - 28 June 2024.

IDare Space Travel will co-chair Panel #2. If there is no solution to the space debris problem, there will be no space exploration, so no space tourism.

As Ireland already had the world's largest telescope, the world's busiest airport and the world's first skydiving club, it is absolutely fitting that two spaceports are planned to be built here.

Happy April 1st!

Funny story ... all of the above is true.

***

1. Today is indeed April the 1st.

2. Birr Castle Demesne in Co. Offaly was home to the world's largest optical telescope for 75 years (1845 to 1920, 1.8m diameter mirror). https://birrcastle.com/telescope-astronomy/

3. If you visit Foynes Flying Boat Museum in Co. Limerick, you will find out that during the WWII times it was the location of the world's busiest airport, by the number of aircraft operations (take-offs and landings). That's where all the flying boats of the times were making refuelling stops on the way from US to Europe. And to keep idle passengers amused, Irish Coffee was promptly invented there. https://flyingboatmuseum.com

4. The Irish Parachute Club (Skydive IPC) in Co. Offaly is the world's oldest commercial skydiving club. It was founded in 1956. https://skydive.ie

5. Suas Aerospace is planning to build two commercial spaceports in Ireland. https://suasaerospace.com
Wish them luck!

Do you have "the right stuff" to travel to space? And it is not about your fitness or knowing how to perform gravity assist manoeuvres around Venus to get to Jupiter faster, or be cool enough to solve mathematical equations in a freefall.

Are you a good human? A space-rated human? Do you belong to the spacekind?

You may find out and you will grow your space-rated human skills if you lack some.

One of the best networking/training program I've ever joined is Spacekind.

They are launching their 13th season on May 7th and you may (should) join: https://trainings.cosmiccitizen.org/spacekind

PS. Even if you don't join, read these books anyway:

How about this for a item:
- fly fast,
- fly high,
- experience up to 4.5G, and
- probably, try some weightlessness, too?

You can try all of the above if you fly in a Fighter Jet, "Top Gun" style.

Aero Legends in UK is the closest place to Ireland where you can do that: https://www.aerolegends.co.uk/experiences/fly-a-fighter-jet/.. and there are several similar companies in Europe and US.

Check IDare Space Travel website if you want to learn more: https://idare.space

Be a fighter pilot for the day, experience real ‘Top Gun’ style flying in an Ex-Military Strikemaster Fighter Jet. Available from April 2023

World Records? - It is possible. By any "normal people".
Flying in wingsuits? - Yes, you can learn to fly them.
Skydiving? - Absolutely. It's a sport.
What is the hardest part of setting a world record? - To start.

David Duffy and Stephen Duffy are brothers. They live in Ireland. They have "normal" jobs. They have families, friends, buy grocery, so lead "normal lives".

But they also have a dream, an idea, a plan, which required them to set several World Records just to test several items in preparation.

If you want to know more, check you favourite podcast platform, search for this podcast: High-Altitude Adventures

In the first episode of season 2 we discussed with David and Stephen:
- what is skydiving,
- what is wingsuiting,
- competitions in wing suiting,
- the World Records they have set,
- their next big project in the sky

The most stress-free and minimal-training way to go beyond Earth's atmosphere is probably with Space Perspective.

Training is not much longer than before a normal commercial airline flight:
"No special training is required, making this the most accessible spaceflight experience available. You will be required to participate in preflight programming to help fully immerse yourself in the experience. These programs will cover everything from a comprehensive safety briefing, to a walkthrough of the Spaceship Neptune, to an overview of what will happen outside of the capsule during ascent and descent."
Taken from the company website: https://spaceperspective.com/faq

The flight itself will last approximately 6 hours, during 2 of which you will be above 99% of our planets atmosphere, the Earth will be curved and the sky will be black any time of the day.

It was a great honour and privilege to be a guest on Angie Tumlinson's "Elevated Insights" podcast last week.

We talked about many things, including some space travel, of course, but most importantly, about how we, the humans, function, make decision, succeed in life (and, sometimes, fail)...

and how our thoughts, feelings and actions should be in harmony for us to succeed more often than fail.

11/03/2024

This Thursday, March 14th (around noon UTC/Dublin time), SpaceX will launch their Starship rocket again (3rd time).

Why this launch is important?

- SpaceX has made many modifications after the previous launch and will test these changes in this test flight,
- This time SuperHeavy stage should successfully reach the ocean,
- This time Starship second stage should successfully perform de-orbit burn and reach the ocean,
- SpaceX will test opening Starship's cargo bay in space to prepare for launching payloads (most likely, Starlink V2 satellites) next time,
- SpaceX will test transferring criogenic fuel during this test flight, in preparation for refuelling operations in space, needed for sending their Starship lander to the Moon, as part of the Artemis Lunar program

SpaceX is planning 7-8 more Starship flights this year.

Why Starship program is important?

This will be the first fully reusable rocket-spaceship system in human history, capable of launching 150-250 tonnes of payload into space. The maintenance/servicing duration between flights will be similar to the airline industry - hours or days - not months as before. This will ensure fast and cheap reusability and will help to drop the cost of launching payloads to space ~100 times. SpaceX is planning to build one Starship engine per day, and several Starships per month to ensure airline-style cargo and passenger operations. It may actually replace airplanes on some point-to-point Earth operations.

Many old ways of launching and operating in space will become obsolete.
Many new ways and applications will appear.
The future is very near.

You will be able to watch the Thursday launch live (I will add the links during the week):

NSF: TBD
The Launch Pad: TBD
Everyday Astronaut: TBD

If you want to become an astronaut, NASA is accepting applications now for the next class - from March 5th until April 2nd, 2024, so don't waste your time, prepare your space resume.

General qualifications:

- Be a U.S. citizen (dual citizenship is OK)

- Have a master’s degree in a STEM field, including engineering, biological science, physical science, computer science or mathematics, from an accredited institution.

- Have a minimum of three years of related professional experience obtained after degree completion (or 1,000 Pilot-in-Command hours with at least 850 of those hours in high performance jet aircraft for pilots).
For medical doctors, time in residency can count towards experience and must be completed by June 2025.

- Be able to successfully complete the NASA long-duration flight astronaut physical.

If interested, go staging to this website and apply. Most of your questions will be answered there: e.g. age limits (none, actually), eyesight (RPK and LASIC is OK), salary ($152K), etc.

Best of luck!!!
