First cup of tea in the day is an important one. My personal preference is a loose leaf tea, infused for five minutes to let all the antioxidants and flavonoids out of the leaf and into the liquid.

Drinking at least two cups of tea a day protects your heart and helps you live longer, study suggests.

The study does not definitively establish that tea is the cause of the lower early mortality of tea drinkers, because it cannot exclude that this is down to other health factors associated with tea consumption.

Interesting times lie ahead for the tea industry. Two huge and separate incidents are having a massive impact on tea.

The Russia invasion of Ukraine has created massive world sanctions against Russia. Russia is a huge importer of tea and this has led to a big drop in demand for tea, especially from East Africa. Russia also import large quantities from Indian and Sri Lanka and that is where the second problem lies.

Sri Lanka is in a serious financial situation. The Country has run out of foreign currency and cannot purchase oil. Power cuts are happening on a daily basis. Sri Lanka are a large producer of tea and a big supplier to Russia. Their tea industry is now in trouble due to their countries financial difficulties and they need oil and power to make tea. If you don’t have a reliable power supply then you will face huge difficulties making quality tea.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out over the next few months. India is well positioned to take up the slack from Sri Lanka. The big question is what will happen in East Africa, especially Kenya, the largest producer of tea in Africa?
