This paves the way for several exciting upcoming changes, including:
- Modified “change of employer” rules simplifying the process for permit holders switching employers. This includes reducing the minimum required period of employment with the initial employer from 12 months to between 6 and 12 months, to be set in further regulations
- A streamlined Labour Market Testing process that will no longer require advertising positions in a national newspaper
- Introduction of a seasonal employment permit to facilitate recurrent seasonal employment
- The minister will have expanded authority to specify conditions for the grant of general and seasonal employment permits, such as accommodation or training
- Some operational elements of the employment permit system will be set in regulations to allow for greater flexibility in responding to labour market changes
Note: The specific regulations detailing these rules are yet to be published.
