Topflight Today FM Ski Trip Update

We know that there have been plenty of you waiting to hear about this coming season’s Topflight Today FM Ski Trip and it is with heavy hearts that we have come to the decision that the trip will not go ahead this season.

Although the world of both travel and events have been finding their feet once again after a tumultuous few years, the level of preparation and planning that is required to go into providing you with the standard of ski trip that you have come to expect from us, is huge. For those of you who've joined us before, you'll understand that any restrictions around event capacities, table service or mask wearing would completely ruin our events. While the threat of these Covid restrictions still hangs in the air, we feel it's prudent to sit it out for one more year.

We know that this news will come as a big disappointment for many of you but we hope you can understand and appreciate our position.

So, although we may not make it to the slopes as a group of over 700 skiers this year, the snow will still fall, the drinks will still flow and the slopes will be waiting for you, so why not take the reins and plan your own, albeit slightly smaller, group ski trip?
Our Group Ski Department can talk you through your options according to your groups preferences of both accommodation and resorts, ski ability and budgets and will ensure that you have everything you need to enjoy a successful trip.

Now that you have had a little time to reflect, we hope that you understand the decision which was made not proceed with the 2022 Topflight Today FM Ski Trip. We look forward to all coming together on the slopes in winter 2023.

Our friends at the Ski Club of Ireland in Kilternan are hosting Alpine Fest 2021 on the 25th & 26th of September.

Get your ski legs back in action before the long awaited 21/22 ski season with guest instructors from some of the great Austrian ski resorts. All levels of ski ability will be catered for so, whether you are finding your feet, or just want to brush up your skills, this is your chance.

Topflight Today FM Ski Trip Update

Those of you who have joined us over 21 years of the Topflight Today FM Ski Trip know that this trip is simply one of a kind. It’s Europe’s biggest group ski trip with participants from every corner of the country. It is all about the group, the get-togethers, the musical performances, and the fun and friendships on and off the slopes.

We were unable to host the trip earlier in 2021 due to the pandemic. Many of you have been enquiring in recent weeks about Ski Trip 2022. It is a very difficult decision but unfortunately, we announce this morning that the Topflight Today FM Ski Trip 2022 will not be going ahead. As anyone who has enjoyed the trip previously would testify, a huge amount of organisation and planning goes into the trip to ensure that we create an unforgettable experience for the Topflight Today FM Ski Trippers. At this stage, planning would be well underway however there are still uncertainties when it comes to arranging a ski trip for 700 people in a European ski resort and we don’t want to compromise on what is the amazing group ski experience that you love and have come to expect on Topflight Today FM Ski Trips down through the years.

We are hugely disappointed that we cannot bring you the Topflight Today FM Ski Trip for 2022, however, those of you planning a ski trip with friends or family this winter season will have a ball. We know how eager you are to get back to the slopes. We are at the end of the phone on 01 240 1700 or 028 2108 0007 for any advice and information that you might need.

We look forward to bringing you a future Topflight Today FM Ski Trip, unfortunately, it won’t be in 2022, but we look forward to getting the group back together in 2023, when it sure will be one to remember.

It’s an early start but it’s well worth it. Friday morning on the Topflight Today FM Ski Trip means just one thing - the Big Breakfast!

Live entertainment and the brilliantly talented Mario Rosenstock aka Gift Grub, makes it well worth getting out of bed for. And with some lucky ski trippers in the running to win the cost of their holiday back, there’s always great excitement. Of course, we always welcome the taste of home at the Big Breakfast, with a morning cup of Barry’s tea. You can’t beat it!

Let it never be said that the Topflight Today Fm Ski Trippers are a shy bunch. Your dedication to participation over the years has always been incredible and really what makes the trip such a fantastic success year after year. Whether it’s quiz nights, karaoke, the Poc Fada - no matter what it is, you’ll always get involved.

In particular, your creativity with fancy dress seems to know no bounds. Historical references, current politics, cartoon characters, even inanimate objects - we have seen it all! We don't know where all your inspiration comes from, but we love it and we are already looking forward to seeing what you come up with next.

Quite a few years ago, we wondered what else could we add to the Topflight Today FM Ski Trip. The answer came in the form of the GAA Poc Fada in the Snow. Why not take a taste of home to the slopes?

Over the years we have had quite a few camogie and hurling stars who have shown us how their skills well and truly transfer to the snow. Thanks to everyone who has participated and donned their county colours on the slopes.

We look forward to seeing many, many more county jerseys on the slopes over the coming years.

Taking to the Piste.

Whether in Andorra, France or Austria, we have enjoyed some excellent exploits on the slopes over the years. From nervous beginners to seasoned pros, we really have seen it all.

We've worked with some wonderful ski hire shops, ski schools with very patient instructors, tourist boards and lift pass companies throughout the trip’s lifespan and a special thanks has to go to the Ski Club of Ireland. Each year, the team in Kilternan make us feel so welcome on our pre-trip lesson.

We look forward to hitting the slopes with you all in 2022 for some new adventures.

Music and entertainment are a key ingredient in the Topflight Today FM Ski Trip. Over the years, we have enjoyed a wealth of talent including the Saw Doctors, the Coronas, Picture This, the Academic, Mundy, Wallis Bird and Damien Dempsey to name but a few. Even Dustin the turkey joined us!

Whether it is music on the slopes, secret or not-so-secret sessions or the gig of the week on Wednesday night, we have all sung and danced the afternoons and nights away.

The Harley's have played a huge role in keeping us all entertained on the Topflight Today FM ski trip over the years. We have loved every minute of their performances. We’ll miss them this year for sure and can’t wait to see them back on stage with us in 2022. In the meantime, have a listen to the Harley’s incredible performance with the Dublin Gospel Choir and the Classic Rocks Orchestra, with arrangement by Keith Levinson of The Who. It really is something special.

Today would have been the day that we would have all set out for the slopes and a week of ski, entertainment and all-round great craic with a wonderful bunch of people.

For me, Ian, the Topflight & Today FM crews and a fair few of you too, the Topflight Today FM Ski Trip has been a highlight of every year for the last 21 years, so it’s certainly strange and of course a little sad that this year was not to be.

But absence will, no doubt, make the heart grow fonder and fingers crossed we will be back on the slopes with a bang in 2022, we're already looking forward to it. For now, let's enjoy looking back on some great memories from past trips, until we meet again.

With Christmas and the New Year just around the corner, we wanted to take this opportunity to wish you a happy and safe Christmas and New Year.

January 2020 began with the usual excitement and anticipation of a New Year. Then on the 25th January, we made our way to the Austrian Alps to enjoy the 21st Topflight Today FM Ski Trip. However, no one could have foreseen how things would change by mid-March. It has been a year like no other and hopefully like none we will ever see again.

Unfortunately in 2021, we won’t be meeting on the slopes for our annual Topflight Today FM Ski Trip. It was a difficult decision to postpone this group trip but the correct decision. We look forward to the craic, the parties, the get-togethers, the ski and being joined by great Irish musicians when we get to do it all again in 2022.

In the meantime, we will miss you in 2021 but look forward to rekindling the friendships and enjoying fun times in 2022. Have a happy and safe Christmas and every best wish for a brighter 2021.

Over the years the Topflight Today FM Ski Trippers have enjoyed many great days and nights at the Ski Club of Ireland. Unfortunately this year we won't be having our annual night at the club but look forward to the next one!

If you fancy getting your ski legs back in advance of your ski holiday the club opens from Monday 5th October for lessons. All lessons must be booked in advance to allow the club to ensure that all socially distanced protocols are adhered to.

We cannot wait to get back to the Ski Club, meet the instructors and get our skis back on!

As those who have joined us over the past 21 years of the Topflight Today FM Ski Trip know, it isn’t like any other ski trip. First of all, it’s Europe’s biggest group ski trip and each year we bring with us a group from all across the 32 counties of Ireland. It is and always has been, as much about the people, the craic, the parties and the get-togethers as it is about skiing.



So, it is with great sadness that we have come to the difficult decision to postpone our 2021 trip. We have not made this decision lightly but we would rather miss a year and ensure that our famously high standards for entertainment are not compromised and to ensure your health and safety, rather than to try to emulate what the trip is all about while adhering to social distancing and new rules and regulations.
