Ireland’s Best Wild Camping Spots June 24, 2019 At first glance, camping and Ireland might not go hand in hand: The weather (as you might have noticed!) can be cold and unpredictable, leading to a bracing encounter with the elements if you don’t have the right tent or camping gear. However, Irel...

Carrauntoohil is Ireland's highest mountain and the central peak of the MacGillycuddy's Reeks, Ireland's highest mountain range. The view from the top of this mountain is nothing short of spectacular. 💚

In 1847 during the Irish potato famine, the Choctaw Nation of Native Americans donated $710 ($1m in today’s money) to assist with famine relief.

This was a huge gesture, especially considering this was from a impoverished community of people who were still struggling to recover from injustices of their own.

In 2015, this monument of appreciation was built in Bailic Park, Midleton, Co Cork. As a result, the Native American Choctaws will be forever etched in Irish minds.

Hey guys,

I've just set up a TripAdvisor page and would love it if you could take two mins to leave me a quick review. Honestly every single one helps!

The page is brand new, and it would be great to get the ball rolling and get it off the ground. So anyone who has taken a tour with me please take some time to leave some feedback and tell everyone how good (I hope!) the tour was.

Thanks Guys!!

Part of hidden history. Billy was an 18th century strangler and murderer, who had no legs, operating on the North side of the city.

Hidden gem of history in Dublin.

UPDATE 3 (Tue 23 July - 17:30):
The Italian Embassy did get back to me and explained that the ship reluctantly had to cancel the planned visits based on operational and logistic reasons and that the Embassy was only made aware of that today. The ship was in Dublin in 2012 and 2016 and I hope that when it comes the next time and if they then invite us all to visit the ship again, I will be able to tell you!
(In Update2 I wrote that the Embassy didn't reply to my emails and I am happy to confirm that the Embassy did reply to an e-mail at 12:36, but that e-mail ended up in my spam folder. In it I was told that they will ask the ship for an update. That update arrived at 27:06 in my Inbox.)

UPDATE 2 (Tue 23 July - 14:00):
Unfortunately nobody at the Embassy has returned my e-mails or is picking up the phone to clarify the situation regarding the promised and then seemingly cancelled public visiting opportunities on the Amerigo Vespucci. As a result and with two confirmed reports from Dublin Event Guide Readers (Thanks for that!), we have to assume that there are NO visits allowed on the ship for us mere mortals this time! You can still have a look at the ship from stable ground if you want, but that's all. Sorry!

UPDATE 1 (Mon 22 July):
While the Embassy communicated in a Press Release that the ship would be open for visitors, it seems that visitors were told on Monday afternoon that on this trip the ship would NOT open their doors to the public.
I will check that with the Embassy on Tuesday and will update this Post! Apologies if I mislead you. :-O

Little history tidbit:

On the 5th July 1828 Daniel O'Connell won the Clare by-election, exploiting a loophole.

Although Catholics were excluded from taking seats in Westminster, there was nothing stopping them for running for election.

This would bring us one step closer to emancipation in 1829.

Bit of bissare history:

In 2004, A bronze plaque commemorating a priest named Fr. Pat Noise mysteriously appeared on O’Connell Bridge.

Turns out Fr. Pat Noise never existed.

Dubliners quickly fell in love with the hoax plaque with people leaving flowers at the site of Fr Pat Noise’s ill-fated carriage accident and queuing up to take photos.
