A great treat that you can enjoy in all kinds of weather is taking a pony and trap from the Gap of Dunloe to Lord Brandon’s Cottage ….and remember it's not the weather, it's how your dressed that makes the difference ! The cottage was the hunting lodge for Lord Brandon and is located between the Head of the Gap of Dunloe and the juncture of the valley road in the Black Valley. A seven kilometer jaunt takes you through some of Ireland’s most rugged and unspoiled terrain to a setting that is just breathtaking. Approx. a seven kilometer journey from leaving the Gap to arriving at Lord Brandon’s cottage where refreshments are served. You can continue your journey from here further into the Black Valley. A cycling trip from Killarney National Park to the cottage is equally enjoyable or take a boat trip from the jetty behind the house across the Lakes back to Muckross.

The Gap of Dunloe has long been a popular tourist attraction in Killarney. We took these image over the weekend and were reminded of just how spectacular the scenery is in Dunloe. The road through it is narrow, winding and a lovely journey. A popular form of transport for tourists is the horse-drawn trap, walking or cycling. We met a few cyclists and traffic was mainly of the woollen Kerry sheep variety on our way through and would advise you bring a jacket or fleece when visiting as the wind was high by www.killarneyholidaycottages.com

With a wave of sunshine hopefully due later this week in Killarney, we highly recommend a visit to Derrynane Beach and Derrynane House. This is a beautiful , unspoilt, extensive sandy beach setting. Here you can explore one of the 3 Beaches and an old Abbey. There are plenty of watersports here including wind surfing and sailing.
Derrynane House is also worth a visit just adjacent and was the birthplace of Daniel O Connell. An ideal day trip within easy driving distance from our homes at www.killarneyholidaycottages.com
