ENNIS GIVES EXTRA
+++++++++++++

Last week the Government rolled out its ‘Stay & Spend’ tax-back Scheme and this week local businesses in Ennis, Co Clare, roll out ‘Ennis Gives Extra’ - a €40 voucher top-up awarded to ‘staycationers’ who book a 2-night stay in Ennis this October.

‘Ennis Gives Extra’ sees each of the seven participating accommodation providers reward the first 10 people to book a ‘2-night stay for 2 sharing’ (during October), with a €40 voucher. Presented at check-in, the voucher can be spent in selected restaurants, bar/restaurants and shops in Ennis.

With an excellent selection of independent retailers, Ennis offers a high-quality shopping experience. Two of the town’s boutiques (County Boutique and Willow) featured in the recently published ‘Top 50 (island of Ireland) Best Independent Women’s Fashion Boutiques’. The town offers excellent menswear retailers, children’s clothing and craft toy shops, craft jewelers, and homeware retailers.

While there is lots to see and do in this vibrant town, Ennis is also a fantastic touring base with a variety of stunning scenery and places to visit on its doorstep. The Burren National Park is within a 15-minute drive and the Wild Atlantic Way coastline within 20 minutes. Travel west to visit the Cliffs of Moher, Lahinch, Spanish Point or Loop Head.

Check out natural wonders (indoors!) at Aillwee Cave and Doolin Cave, or head east to explore the beautiful villages, verdant landscape and waterways of the Lough Derg area.

Safe shopping, great food, spectacular sightseeing, access to a wide choice of outdoor activities including walking, hill walking, hiking, horse–riding, kayaking or just relaxing - Ennis has it all.

The third day on tour was just as eventful as the last! With plenty of picture stops, history and incredible coastal views.

First stop was Dunguaire Castle, which is definitely dramatic. This is one of the most photographed castles in Ireland, and it's no wonder. Absolutely stunning location. It also served as a writers retreat, who else would love some time in there to simply write?

Then it was off to Poulnabrone dolmen, which is an ancient site. It is a large portal tomb, where 33 bodies were found.

On the next drive we were told all about the potato famine and then we stopped at a old potato but, where the potato farmers lived. Near here there was also a wishing well (or leprechaun hut), where the water was fresh enough to drink.

A few more incredible coastal views later we stopped at Fitzpatrick's bar (Hotel Doolin Ireland) where the staff were lovely (as was the food). The only vegan option was to have the vegetarian pasta without the cheese, so the staff have us chips instead of the cheese. Win win!

The main attraction came next, the Cliffs of Moher. These cliffs are incredible and I would love to go back and have a full day exploring. One of the Harry Potter films had a scene filmed here, can you guess which one? As we arrived the weather was starting to turn, but the mist just made the place even more beautiful. Though it meant the sunset wasn't great, you can't have everything though, can you?

Then it was onward to Ennis, which is famous for live music. It's a pretty town after dark, but I definitely want to come back and explore during the day.

After some yummy courgette pasta at Rowan Tree Cafe Bar, we went to Cruises Bar for a night of live music. A great way to end a fantastic day!

I flew out from Shannon airport last week with my children. I informed the lady at the information desk that I was travelling with autistic children and she gave them caps to make staff aware of their needs.
The assistance and treatment we received was second to none....
It was the first time I have been somewhere so public with my kids and made feel so welcome. All staff greeted us and made a fuss of the kids. Security staff allowed them to try out the xray systems and brought us straight through all areas of the airport with ease.
At the boarding gate they took us aside and allowed us to wait in a quiet area before taking us to board the aircraft first. They also allowed us enough time to settle the kids on board before all the other passengers boarded.
It was a fantastic experience and my kids can't wait to fly again from Shannon ✈👍

A former Transaero Boeing 767 is being moved from Shannon Airport to Enniscrone in Sligo where it will be used for glamping (glamourous camping).

Last night / this morning it was moved from Shannon Airport to a jetty near the airport where it will be loaded on to a barge for the move up the coast.

Thankfully the rain held off until after the move was completed.

Fleadh Cheoil

THERE’S ROOM FOR EVERYONE AT THE FLEADH

With more than 400,000 people expected to visit Ennis over the nine days of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2016, the event organisers are meeting the logistical challenge of providing quality, affordable accommodation for the biggest ever influx of visitors to the Clare capital.

The Fleadh team is in the process of compiling an extensive register of available accommodation for publication on this website, ranging from house and room rentals, to bed and breakfast, hotel/hostel, camping and caravan sites.

The accommodation sub-committee is carrying out an inspection process to ensure that all accommodation is of an acceptable standard and available at a fair price. The full list of available accommodation with the relevant contact details will be accessible on the Fleadh website and available to potential guests and site users.

Sub-committee Chairman Brian O’Neill says that the priority is that visitors to the Fleadh will have an overwhelmingly positive experience, not just of the music and craic that is synonymous with the Fleadh, but also of Clare and the Clare people.

“We want to ensure that this starts with a quality standard of accommodation and gives visitors a taste of the welcome that Clare is famous for,” he says.

Through the website and the Fleadh office, those looking for accommodation will be directed to the accommodation list from which they can then select accommodation options and pursue directly the renting of accommodation through the contact details published.

All the arrangements are directly between the person seeking the accommodation and the accommodation provider – the Fleadh team simply provides the accommodation list to enable the parties make contact and pursue an agreement.

Our photo shows accommodation sub-committee chairman Brian O’Neill holding the buckets as the Ennis visitor transport fleet is spruced up in preparation for the Fleadh Cheoil.
