Those who have done this trek will definitely agree that this is one of the coolest treks in the world. In fact, it is less of a trekking and more of an experience which you can cherish for years to come. ✔️

1) It One Of The Most Ancient Trade Routes

Originally a trade route between Zanskar and Ladakh regions – this is over the 1,000-year-old path. It’s called the ‘Khado Sanglam’ by locals in their dialect. Years ago, villagers used to travel to Leh to sell handmade goods, goatskin, copper utensils and yak butter to make money. The only road through which they could reach Leh was through this frozen river until the Zanskar highways were constructed.

2)There’s Beauty Below You As Well

If you think that the scenic beauty of the place is what attracts numerous tourists to the Chadar frozen river every year, just undertake the trek and you will realise that the place has a lot more to offer. The world beneath you is just as mesmerising as the world above. You might get a chance to walk over the ice sheets with water flowing a few feet below. This will not only set your heart racing but fill it with fear and disbelief.

3) Spot the wildlife of Ladakh

Besides gut-wrenching experience, Chadar trek Ladakh offers incredible opportunities to spot exotic wildlife species, including snow leopard, blue sheep, and others.

**The Chadar Trek or the Zanskar Gorge is a winter trail over the frozen Zanskar River. The word “Chadar” means “blanket” and is representative of the sheet of ice cover that forms over the frozen Zanskar river in the dead of winter. You will realize on the trek, that it cannot be better described.** ☃️🥶
