Yesterday I had the honour of delivering the closing remarks at the UN Climate Change side-event, " to the : Accelerating action on water and adaptation."
Here are some of my concluding thoughts:
As we approach , this is our opportunity to respond. To step up to the water challenge. To reach across traditional boundaries. To turn away from failing past practices & vested interests. To make concrete commitments that change the lives of millions.
We need governments to invest in water systems and healthy freshwater ecosystems. We need businesses to assess and respond to our worsening water risks. And we need individuals to value every drop.
I’m not suggesting that this will be either easy or without its challenges. But big goals need us to be prepared to do hard things. Like running ridiculous numbers of marathons at the frontlines of the water crisis in some of the most extreme places on the planet.
But this is not a journey we take alone. It’s a journey we take surrounded by the power of our community and united by a common goal.
Because water is not your problem or mine.
Water is everybody’s business.
Because while individually you can make an impact, together in 2023, we WILL change the world.
