ILLICKAL KALLU .. getting popular day by day this 3400 ft high hillstation is very near to Eerattupetta & Theekkoyi in Kottayam district. This unspoilt hill station offers stunning views of greenery and hills and is a photographers paradise. Drive to the top itself is an experience, mostly covered with mild mist sometimes the visibility will dip to zero. There is a huge rock here , trekking to its feet is adventurous and dangerous same time. Illikal Kallu is at its best in the summer and in the rainy season it is altogether a different experience

PAPANASHINI .. Just 400 meters from Thirunelli Temple , Wayanad is this mountain stream which originates from Brahmagri ranges. The word Papanasini means cleansing sins. It is believed that Papanasini is a tributary of river Ganga and have the power to wash away all the sins. Puranas says that Parashurama performed the last rites of his father Sage Jamadagni here. Papanasini later joins in River Kalindi which is a tributary of River Kabani which later joins in River Kaveri. A dip in Papanashini is a must ritual to visitors of Thirunelli Temple.

RAJARAJESWARI TEMPLE, THALIPPARAMBU .. Just 23 km from kannur, this ancient temple is always in news as several politicians and VIPs visit this temple when they are in trouble! This temple is regarded as one of the existing 108 ancient Shiva Temples of Kerala. It also has a prominent place amongst the numerous Shiva temples in South India. it was supposedly renovated by Sage Parashurama, long before the Kali Yuga commenced. Several centuries ago it was renovated by the Mushika (Kolathiri) dynasty kings. It is also believed that after eight in the evening, Lord Shiva is present in the temple along with Goddess Parvathy and that during this time, they will grant the wishes of women devotees. Hence, women are allowed to enter the temple only after eight pm.
Performances of traditional art forms like the Koodiyattam and the Chakyarkoothu are held here regularly.The massive boundary walls and the two-tiered pyramidal roof capture your attention the instant you reach the temple premises.

THUSHARAGIRI WATERFALLS .. is located in the Kodencherry village in the district of Kozhikode . Tusharagiri means snow capped or Misty mountains.The drive to Tusharagiri is through Coco & Coffee plantations and the area is mostly covered with mist formed by water droplets. The plantation destination that abounds in rubber, arecanut, pepper, ginger and spices, is also a trekkers delight. In Thusharagiri two streams on top of the hills of Western Ghats join together to form Chaliyarppuzha. The river Chaliyarpuzha then falls down in three parts, giving just a wonderful sight to the viewers.

THAMARASSERY GHAT (Churam) ...is the gateway to fascinating Wayanad district connecting Wayanad to Kozhikode district. This 14km long pass has 9 hairpin bends which is a daring experience. NEYYAR WILD LIFE SANCTUARY .. just 32 km from Thiruvananthapuarm city, in the southeast corner of the Western Ghats, the Neyyar sanctuary is the drainage basin of the Neyyar river and its tributaries – Mullayar and Kallar. This sanctuary is a part of the habitat of over a hundred species of fauna including Asian Elephant, Tiger, Leopard, Slender Loris and reptiles like King Cobra, Travancore Tortoise, etc. A crocodile breeding centre and a lion safari park is in the vicinity. In short its the home to more than 39 species of mammals, 176 species of birds, 30 species of reptiles, 17 species of amphibians and 40 species of fishes.

St. ANDREW'S BASELICA, ARTHUNKAL .. 8 km from Cherthala & 22 km from Alappuzha, this church was originally built by the Portuguese missionaries in the 16th century. Though the church is in tha name of St.Andrew, In 1647, a statue of St. Sebastian, struck with arrows all over his bleeding body sculptured in Milan, was brought and placed in the Arthunkal church. MANCOMBU..Rice Research Station.. between Alappuzha and Changanassery at Mancombu is this famous place of Dr. MS Swaminadhan. Rice Research Station was established in 1940's exclusively to deal with research on rice in Kuttanad ecosystem. The center has introduced several famous breeds of rice in Kerala. CHETTIKULANGARA BHAGAVATHI TEMPLE .. this 1200 year old temple is situated on the banks of Achenkovil between Mavelikkara and Kayamkulam, where the chief deity appears as Saraswathi during morning time, as Maha Lakshmi at noon time and as Durga or Bhadrakali in evening time. The Kettukazhcha festival in the month of Kumbham (February-March) draws large crowds of devotees. Processions of tall decorated structures on chariots, brightly decorated effigies of horses and bullocks and cultural performances make a spectacular event to watch.

DHONI HILLS & WATERFALLS, PALAKKAD .. is a popular picnic spot with a small and beautiful waterfall just 15 km from Palakkad town & 5 km from Malampuzha dam. Bordered by Western Ghats on north,it takes a three hours trek from the base of the Dhoni hills to reach this reserve forest area.There is narrow mountain path suitable only for 4 Wheel Drives and motor bikes all the way till the water fall. Although the waterfalls is not so big, the beautiful surroundings will make up for that.

SHAKTHAN THAMPURAN PALACE, THRISSUR .. this two storied building with a nalukettu was inspired by the Dutch and Kerala style of architecture and it has a huge museum in the palace with a number of galleries like the Epigraphy gallery, the Bronze gallery, the Numismatics gallery, a Sculpture gallery. The palace is named after Shakthan Thampuran of Perumbadappu Swaroopam who were the rulers of Kochi and he ruled from 1790 to 1805 which was considered as a golden era in the history of Kochi. In addition to the palace which preserves has the largest collection of excavated megalithic material in Kerala, very good ancient coins , the galleries depicting the treasury, royal bedroom, and the royal kitchen utensils, besides displays of bronzes, weapons, and stamps the compound also has a good botanical & medicinal plants garden.

PUTHENKULAM ELEPHANT VILLAGE , KOLLAM .. 25km from Kollam town, 5 km from Paravur is the small town of Puthenkulam which has one of the biggest number of captive elephants in a small radius..almost 50!. PARASHINIKKADAVU SNAKE PARK : 16 km from Kannur, this only snake park of Kerala is set up by the Visha Chikista Kendra at Pappinisseri, attracts both foreign and domestic tourists. ARAKKAL MUSEUM, KANNUR .. Arakkal Kettu was the residence of the former Arakkal Ali Rajas, Kerala's only Muslim royal family. Protected by the Archaeological and Tourism Department, owned and managed by the Arakkal Family Trust, this museum houses a splendid display of numerous artefact's and heirlooms belonging to the Rajas. Kannur, islands of Lakshadweep and Maldives were ruled by Arakkal family. Its closed on Mondays.
