A timelapse of the first ray of sunlight on the holy Kanchenjunga (extreme right), the third highest peak in the world, from Goecha la viewpoint at 4600m. This one hour timelapse clearly shows how the mountains make their own weather, as the high peaks are first burning gold with sunlight and then get quickly enveloped in dark clouds.

There is no doubt that Kashmir Great Lakes is one of the most scenic treks in India. The mountains, lakes and meadows make the landscape truly scintillating. We were unfortunate to get some dire weather for the two departures in September with incessant rains and mucky trails. However, we made the best of it and still had fun on the trail with some amazing people!!

Nagaland,India
One of the eastern most states of India , Nagaland is famous for the annual Hornbill Festival held every year in December to many travelers.
However , there is more to this vibrant state for adventure seekers .

Japfu peak (Pictures 1-4)
Japfu peak is easily accessible from the capital Kohima and you can do a day hike or a night camp on the ridge. The hike is through forest coming out on a ridge through dense forest with a small vertical rock climb just below the summit. The second highest point, where a giant cross has been installed, in Nagaland gives a good view of the Kohima valley .

Dzukou Valley (Pictures 5-8)
The valley is covered with short bamboo plants making it a surreal experience. It is an easy hike adn you can stay a night at the government guesthouse or camp in your own tent. The evening views of the valley are pretty stunning.

Can you believe that this stunning piece of architecture is more than 2000 years old?? Amazing isn't it!!

The Nabatean civilization, which thrived around Petra since 7000BC, made Petra the capital of their Kingdom. The Treasury or Al khazneh ( as seen in this picture) is one of the most famous archaeological site in this stone city and is believed to be the tomb of King Aretas IV.

One can only imagine how this intricate city was carved out of a whole Rock in the ancient times. It is said that only 20% of this city has been explored fully yet.

Need more lunch views like these!!
A little picnic on the banks of Tso kar , a salt lake at an elevation of 4500m in Ladakh. The spectacular reflection of the sky is because of the high salt content which was traded all the way to Tibet by the Changpa nomads who inhabit the Changthang plateau in Ladakh.
