Mithila also known as Tirhut and Tirabhukti, is a geographical and cultural region of the Indian subcontinent, mainly located in the Indian state of Bihar. This region is bounded by the Mahananda River in the east, the Ganges in the south, the Gandaki River in the west and by the foothills of the Himalayas in the north. It extends into the eastern Terai of Nepal. The native language in Mithila is Maithili, and its speakers are referred to as Maithils. The name Mithila is commonly used to refer to the Videha Kingdom, as well as to the modern-day territories that fall within the ancient boundaries of Videha. In the 18th century, when Mithila was still ruled in part by the Raj Darbhanga, the British Raj annexed the region without recognizing it as a princely state.

Madhubani : Town is located in the district with the same name in Bihar. The name of the town Madhubani means ‘Forest of Money’ and the same can be found in abundance over here. Madhubani is popular for its beautiful villages and their ancient art, which is known by the name of Madhubani painting. The town of Madhubani has also been the centre of ‘Maithili’ culture. Madhubani art dates back to several hundred years and was first commissioned by King Janak at the wedding ceremony of his daughter with Lord Rama. Traditionally, Madhubani art was practised only by Madhubani women on mud walls, but now it is practised on cotton textiles, canvas and handmade paper as well. The themes used in Madhubani paintings mostly include Hindu goddesses, gods and nature. The attractions present here include the temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, which is also known by the name of ‘Kapileswarthan’ Temple. The popular fair organised during the time of Maha Shivaratri attracts many tourists. The weather conditions in Madhubani are mainly sub tropical and wet with extremely hot summers and dry winters. The best time to visit Madhubani is during the time of the retreating monsoons in the months of October, November and December. Madhubani is linked with Darbhanga district through National Highway 104. There is a railway station in Madhubani and it is directly connected with Darbhanga Junction. The nearest airport is located in Patna and coming soon in Darbhanga.
Kapileshwar Sthan : A village situated nine kilometers from Madhubani District. The village is noted for its Shiva Temple, also known as Kapileswarsthan. Numerous devotees congregate at the temple every Monday and particularly in the month of Shravan. A large fair is also held on the occasion of Maha Shiva Ratri.
Saurath : This is a road side village on Madhubani- Jaynagar its importance to the annual Sabha held by Maithili Brahmins for negotiating marriages. Many Panjikars who keep the genealogical records of the different families reside here known for the popular Somnath Mahadev temple.
Nagar Fort, Madhubani : Built by Maharaja Shri Rameshwar Singh, the Nagar fort is popularly known as the Naulakha Palace. The fort had to suffer tremendous destruction owing to the severe earthquake in the year 1934, since then, this once magnificent structure which used to be the residence of the royal family now just stands there like a Khandahar.
Bhawanipur : It is a large village situated 5kms from the block headquarter of Pandaul, the village is noted for its temple of Ugaranath and traditional association with famous poet, Vidyapati. As the legend says, Vidyapati was such a great devotee of Lord Shiva that the latter began to serve Vidyapati as his servant named Ugana.
Uchaitha, Madhubani : On the western bank of Thumne river, stands tall the Bhagwati temple. If historic stories were to be believed, goddess Bhagwati blessed the famous writer and poet Kalidas on this spot, it is said that the goddess was supremely impressed by the talent, skills and dedication of Kalidas. The south east of the temple is Kalidas's pathshala. The temple is an ancient site and is built with an Indo A***n of architecture. It is said that when years ago, the Maharajadhiraaj Shri Rameshwar Singh had insisted on reinstalling the head of the image of the deity, just a night before installation of the newly designed head, the goddess appeared in the king's dream and asked him it was right for him to create the creator. The head was hence not installed and is still kept right next to the statue of the deity.
Jitwarpur -Madhubani Painting : Madhubani painting is one of the many famous Indian art forms. As it is practiced in the Mithila region of Bihar and Nepal, it is called Mithila or Madhubani art. Often characterized by complex geometrical patterns, these paintings are known for representing ritual content for particular occasions, including festivals, religious rituals, etc. The colors used in Madhubani paintings are usually derived from plants and other natural sources. These colors are often bright and pigments like lampblack and ochre are used to create black and brown respectively. Instead of contemporary brushes, objects like twigs, matchsticks and even fingers are used to create the paintings.
Madhubani paintings originated in the Mithila region of Bihar. Some of the initial references to the Madhubani painting can be found in the Hindu epic Ramayana when King Janaka, Sita’s father, asks his painters to create Madhubani paintings for his daughter’s wedding. The knowledge was passed down from generation to generation and the paintings began to adorn the houses of the region. The women of the village practiced these paintings on the walls of their respective home. Their paintings often illustrated their thoughts, hopes and dreams.
Over time, Madhubani paintings became a part of festivities and special events like weddings. Slowly, this art attracted connoisseurs of art as many contemporary Indian artists took the art on global stage. The traditional base of plastered mud wall was soon replaced by handmade paper, cloth and canvas. Since the paintings have been confined to a limited geographical range, the themes as well as the style are more or less, the same.

"Char Dham of India " Char Dham Yatra has a great significance among the Hindus. There is a belief among the Hindu community that a yatra to the Char Dham washes away all the sins of a person and takes him to 'Moksha'. It is also believed that a Hindu must visit these pilgrimage sites once in his lifetime. Char Dham are the different abodes of God widely revered by the Hindus. These destinations are spread across four different directions of the country - Badrinath in the north, Puri in the east, Rameswaram in the south and Dwarka in the west. The term "Char Dham" was given by Sri Adi Shankaracharya.

Char Dham form a square as Badrinath and Rameswaram fall on the same longitude and Dwarka and Puri fall on the same latitude. The four abodes have their own significance and importance in Hindu mythology.

Badrinath

The Badrinath Dham is one of the sacred places located in the Himalayas. It is situated in the Badrinath town in Uttarakhand at a height of 3133m above sea level. The Badrinath Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and it is believed that he had done his penance at this holy place. According to the mythological beliefs, when Goddess Mahalaxmi saw Lord Vishnu undertaking his penance in open, she took the form of Badari tree and provided him shelter to protect him from adverse weather conditions. Hence, the temple is named as Badari Narayan. The Kings of Garhwal have built the present structure of the temple. The Lord Badari Narayan carries a Shankh (Conch) in one hand and Chakra in the other. The other two arms rest on the lap in Yogamudra. The best time to visit this pilgrimage site is from May to October except monsoons.

Puri

The Jagannath Temple is located in Puri, Odisha. The name 'Jagannath' is derived from the word 'Jagat Nath', which means the 'Lord of the Universe'. The deities of Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra are worshipped in the temple. The idols of these deities are made from wood. After every twelve years, these wooden idols are replaced ceremoniously with the wood of sacred trees. Exactly same replica of the wooden statues is prepared during every ceremony. Daily worship in the temple takes place four times a day- 1, 5, 9 and 11 am. An annual Rath Yatra or the Chariot Festival is held in Puri for Lord Jagannath. During this yatra, the three deities are taken out on a procession and kept for nine days at Gundicha Temple. The best time to visit Puri is from October to April.

Rameswaram

Ramanathaswamy Temple, located in the island of Rameswaram is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It gained this name because here Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva, when he returned from Sri Lanka. It is believed that after Rama killed Ravana, in order to clear the "dosha" of killing a brahim, he worshipped an idol of Lord Shiva here which was brought by Lord Hanuman from Kailash. The deity of Shiva, in the temple, is in the form of lingam. There are two lingams in this holy place, one that Goddess Sita had built with sand and the other one which Lord Hanuman brought from Kailash. For the devotees, the temple is open from 5 am to 9 pm (except 1-3 p.m.). The main poojas are performed six times a day. The time from October to April is the best to visit this pilgrimage site.

Dwarka

Dwarkadhish Temple, popularly known as Jagat mandir is located in Dwarka, Gujarat. It is dedicated to Lord Krishna who is also known as the 'King of Dwarka'. As per Hindu mythology the temple was built by Vajranabha, grandson of Lord Krishna at hari-griha, the resident place of Lord Krishna. The temple is also known as Mokshapuri as it is believed that a person can achieve moksha if he visits this temple. The festival of Janamashtmi, also known as Krishna Janmotsav, is very popular among the devotees here. The timings for darshan in the temple everyday is from 6.30 am to 1 pm and then from 5 pm to 9 pm. The best months to visit the temple are from October to March. "Chota Char Dham of India "
