Some facts about the Indian Leopard (Panthera Pardus Fusca).

a. The Indian leopard is a subspecies of the leopard. They are fast felines and can run at up to 58km/h! They're super springy too, and can leap 6 metres forward through the air and jump almost 3 metres high! Thanks to their curled tail which helps the leopard maintain balance and aids in steering the jump.

b. The smallest of the big cats. They are nocturnal animals that can see seven times better in the dark than humans.

c. Due to their resemblance to the shape of a rose, the spots of a leopard are called rosettes and each leopard has a unique rosette pattern. The Indian Leopard has larger rosettes than the other subspecies, with a paler coat in desert habitats, greyer in colder climes and more ochre in rainforest habitats.

d. A melanistic leopard, wherein the entire coat of the animal is black, is often called Black Panther. It is mistakenly thought to be a different species.

e. All feline tongues are covered with tiny barbs or hooks, giving it a rough texture. These microscopic projections face toward the cat's throat and are the tools that help to groom its coat. In the wild, these rasps tear the flesh off the bones of the big cat's prey!

World Lion Day is celebrated annually on August 10 to raise awareness of the sharp decline in lion populations due to threats ranging from habitat loss to illegal hunting. The day was established in 2013 by environmentalists Dereck and Beverly Joubert, founders of the Big Cat Initiative.

At present Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is the only abode of the Asiatic lion. The last surviving population of the Asiatic lions is a compact tract of dry deciduous forest and open grassy scrublands in southwestern part of Saurashtra region of Gujarat.

The number of Asiatic lions, who live primarily in the Gir forests, was estimated to be 674 in 2020, an increase of 29 per cent in five years.

The Asian koel (Eudynamys scolopaceus) is a member of the cuckoo order of birds, the Cuculiformes. It is found in the Indian Subcontinent, China, and Southeast Asia. It forms a superspecies with the closely related black-billed koels, and Pacific koels which are sometimes regaled as subspecies.

The Asian koel like many of its related cuckoo kin lays eggs in the nests of crows and other hosts, who raise its offsprings.

The name koel is echoic in origin with several language variants. The bird is a widely used symbol in Indian and Nepali poetry owing to its sweet call.

Mangeshi Mandir is a major Hindu pilgrimage destination in the beach state of Goa. In the year 1560, when the Portuguese started Christian conversions and killings in Salcete taluka, the Saraswats of Vatsa Gotra moved the Shri Mangeshi Linga from the original site at the Kushasthali or Cortalim on the banks of river Aghanashini (Zuari) to its present location at Mangeshi in Priol village of Atrunja Taluka, which was then ruled by the Hindu kings of Sonde of Antruz Mahal (Ponda), to keep it safe.

Since the time of the shifting, the Mangeshi Mandir has been rebuilt and renovated twice during the reign of the Marathas and again in the year 1890. The final renovation occurred in the year 1973 when a golden kalasha (holy vessel) was fitted atop the tallest dome of the temple.

Busting a .

It is a false notion that Hi**er used the Sw****ka symbol. Hi**er himself by no means used the word "Sw****ka" to refer to this image or symbol. Hi**er first saw the Hooked Cross (“Haken Kreuz”) symbol in a monastery (Lambach Abbey) which he attended as a boy. He later adopted it as a logo for his party. There is no proof that he even heard of the phrase “Sw****ka”.

Originally, the word Swastik comes from its Sanskrit roots Su (good) and Asti (to succeed), meaning wellness, prosperity and fortune, and has been used in the ancient culture as per the sacred book, Rig Veda (around 8000 to 10,000 years old), which is considered to be one of the oldest of Hindu scriptures.

In India, it's a representation of the Surya Dev or Sun God (Bhaskar) with a clockwise orientation, and the auspicious symbol can be seen smeared in turmeric, drawn on thresholds, entrances, shop's door, and doorways as a welcoming sign, or on new automobiles, spiritual scriptures and letterheads.

It is also displayed at weddings and different festive events, even on account books at the start of the financial year or while beginning a new undertaking to draw positivity, luck and fortune. Interestingly, Sw****ka is even a girl's child name in parts of India.
