The last rays of light strike the often-overlooked 'Rajon ki Baoli', Mehrauli's most beautiful and well-preserved stepwell. A baoli is a water reservoir which could serve many purposes to the communities that surrounded them.

Mehrauli has always been a collage of historic architecture that has slowly morphed and adapted to the modern life. Yet in their own way, these buildings have maintained their character and value.

Once a majestic display of architecture, this archway near the northern gate of the Hazrat Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki Dargah now stands as an example of how important it is for us to preserve our history. The cracks on this archway not only represent the many changes Delhi has gone through, but also the diverse and rich story of Mehrauli.

With green areas surrounding three sides, Mehrauli is home to a surprising abundance of wildlife, including the "nilgai." Nilgai, which literally translates to "blue cow" are the largest species of antelope in the world.

These 12 photos portray the uniqueness of Mehrauli, the need for preservation of its historical sites, and the potential for new ways of presenting it to Indians and foreign travelers alike.

We are excited to partner with Delhi Art Society by presenting Mehrauli photographs at the upcoming iSculpt exhibition at the Indian International Centre. Our display will include twelve of Caleb Call's photographs that capture Mehrauli's unique architectural beauty and heritage, while also raising awareness for the need for better preservation and presentation of this historic area.

The Zafar Mahal is located near to the west gate of the dargah of Khwaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki. It was built in 1842 by Akbar Shah II. Built as a three-storied structure in red sandstone embellished with marble, it opens with a large wooden gate called the Hathi (Elephant) Gate. It was built to allow fully decorated elephants with the howdah to pass through.
