One of our favourite characters throughout India is the spritely grey langur monkey. Known for being cheeky with nonchalant poses like this one, did you know that they are the best a raising an alarm when a predator is near? Not only do they become extremely agitated but they share an ear piercing scream over and over as they leap from tree to tree warning the other wildlife of impending danger.
Another fact is their bonding with each other and their deep love of family. You can see them grooming each other on the roadside or languishing atop of a wall. They certainly provide us with many great photos along the way.

The waters are considered purifying, and it holds significant spiritual importance for devotees who undertake pilgrimages along its banks, particularly in cities like Mathura and Vrindavan which are deeply associated with the life of Lord Krishna.
Historically, the Yamuna has been integral to the region's agricultural practices providing irrigation for fertile lands and sustaining livelihoods for generations.
For visitors, the Yamuna offers opportunities to witness the natural beauty of the surrounding countryside and the lush greenery. Ancient temples and historic sites like the Taj Mahal in Agra are situated on the Yamuna's banks and offer insights into the rich cultural heritage of the region. Another in our river series, this time the mighty BRAHMAPUTRA.

The Brahmaputra River running through the northeastern region of India, is a majestic male waterway shaping the landscape and culture of Assam. Unlike many other rivers traditionally considered female, the Brahmaputra's designation as male is attributed to its powerful and forceful nature, reflecting characteristics associated with masculinity such as strength and vigour. ( Remember this characteristic description was made a long time ago).
Its fertile plains and rich biodiversity make it a lifeline for millions, while its spiritual significance is deeply ingrained in local traditions. Along its banks lies Majuli, the world's largest river island and a cultural hub renowned for its Vaishnavite Monasteries, vibrant festivals, and traditional arts.
Further downstream, the city of Guwahati stands as a bustling metropolis steeped in history with ancient temples and monuments dotting its skyline. The Brahmaputra also flows past Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the endangered one-horned rhinoceros. What a great opportunity for visitors to witness the region's diverse wildlife.
From the tranquil beauty of Majuli to the bustling streets of Guwahati and the untamed wilderness of Kaziranga, the Brahmaputra weaves a tapestry of culture, history, and natural grandeur that captivates all who encounter its shores.

Another day on the river and this time we feature the Tungabhadra.

There is an ancient heritage flowing through fertile lands in the heart of Southern India.

As with all rivers, this one serves as a lifeline to the states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh as it enriches the landscape with its fertile banks maintaining the region's agricultural heritage.

Alongside its practical significance, the Tungabhadra holds a deep cultural and historical importance, particularly in the vicinity of the ancient city of Hampi. Once the majestic capital of the Vijayanagara Empire, Hampi is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its spectacular ruins, majestic temples and intricate stone carvings. Flowing gracefully past Hampi's ancient monuments and boulder-strewn landscapes adds to the charm of this historical enclave. Visitors to the Tungabhadra River and Hampi are treated to a captivating blend of natural beauty and cultural richness, offering opportunities for exploration, relaxation, and immersion in the region's storied past.
Just another of the immersive adventures you will encounter when you travel with Lighthouse by Incentive Destinations.

Revered for its untamed beauty and abundant wildlife, the Chambal is a sanctuary for numerous species of birds, fish, and mammals, including the critically endangered gharial, a fish-eating crocodile.
Despite its wild reputation, the Chambal holds a peaceful allure as her placid waters wind through rugged landscapes and ancient ravines.
Historically, the river has been both feared and revered, its name often evoking tales of bandits and dacoits who once roamed its banks, creating a sense of intrigue and mystery. Islam -A little more on the religions of India.

Islam thrives, shaping India's diverse culture.
Islam, introduced to India in the 7th century, has left an indelible mark on the nation's rich tapestry. Rooted in the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, Muslims follow the Quran and the Hadith as their sacred texts. The philosophy of Islam centres on the oneness of God (Allah) and the principles of compassion, justice, and charity.

India hosts significant Islamic pilgrimage sites including the revered Ajmer Sharif Dargah, Fatehpur Sikri- a small city in northern India, just west of Agra which was founded by the 16th-century Mughal Emperor Akbar and the grand mosques of Delhi and Hyderabad. The architectural marvel of the Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands as a testament to India's historical Islamic influence. Islam's vibrant presence in India mirrors the country's cultural diversity and pluralistic ethos.

The architecture of many of the religious buildings has made India famous all over the world.

In our series on religions in India, today we are looking at HINDUISM
Such a diverse and ancient faith with a myriad of deities - this is the true nature of old India.
The Hindu religion is one of the world's oldest and traces its roots to ancient India. Its diverse tapestry incorporates profound philosophies that are encapsulated in sacred texts like the Vedas, Upanishads, and Bhagavad Gita.
Hinduism thrives on the concepts of dharma (righteous living), karma (action and consequence), and moksha (liberation from the cycle of reincarnation). The religion embraces a multitude of deities, each representing facets of the divine. Pilgrimage holds significant importance, with revered sites like Varanasi, Rishikesh, and Tirupati drawing devotees.
Ancient temples such as the Kashi Vishwanath and Badrinath, are hubs of spiritual energy. Hinduism's enduring legacy continues to shape India's cultural and spiritual landscape, offering seekers a profound journey into ancient wisdom.

Never let it be said that India is dull in any form as that most certainly is not the case. Take ZOROASTRIANISM as an example. This religion thrives in India's cultural mosaic life.
You can be forgiven if you have never heard of it - especially if you are not living with the culture inside of India.
The Parsi religion, Zoroastrianism's branch in India, traces its origins to the arrival of Zoroastrians fleeing Persia in the 8th century. The sacred texts, the Avesta, elucidate Zoroaster's teachings emphasizing the eternal struggle between good and evil. Parsi philosophy centres on good thoughts, good words, and good deeds. The revered Fire Temples, such as the Atash Behram in Mumbai, are focal points for worship.
The Tower of Silence in Mumbai reflects the unique Parsi practice of excarnation. The Parsi community has significantly contributed to India's cultural and economic fabric, maintaining its rich traditions while harmoniously coexisting with the diverse tapestry of the nation.
If you think this is fascinating, then wait to see what else we have in store for you.
