Despite being salt water lake, it freezes completely during winters and still is as beautiful as it is in summers. Founded in 1430 by King Tashi Namgyal of Ladakh, the Namgyal Tsemo Monastery, more popularly known as the Tsemo Gompa, is located on a high feature, giving a beautiful glimpse of the the Leh city and flowing rivers.
