Gurudongmar lake is one of the highest lakes in the world, located at an altitude of 17,100 ft (5,210m). The lake can be reached by road from lachen via Thangu (north sikkim). The lake is considered as one of the most sacred lakes of sikkim both by the Buddhist and the Hindus. The lake remains milky in colour throughout, and it is believed that Guru Padmasambhava, the patron saint of sikkim had touched The lake whilst he visited Tibet from this area.
