On a recent hike, which was our first with guests on this trail. An absolute delight walking in the woods and enjoying the peace and quiet. Thanks to Zarna and Anushree for being up to walking on new trails for us.

A month from today and we begin with the first group of our Australian walking group in Kalimpong, Sikkim and Darjeeling region.
We believe a place is best explored on foot, even if you see less (as compared to sightseeing by vehicle) there is a whole lot more to experience and take back.

We often travel with our humble French press and ground coffee whether on tours or on treks. No better way to start the day with good coffee and we try to ensure that our guests begin their day that way.

Sunrise as seen from Rachela on one December day. Rachela (approx 3200m) is the highest point of Kalimpong inside the Neora park and is a tri-junction of Kalimpong, Sikkim & Bhutan. It's definitely one of the best treks we've done, unfortunately for now permits are not issued to camp overnight. But this trail remains by far one of the best wilderness experiences.

A wonderful walk around Palighar this evening and enjoying the sounds of bird calls. We spotted a few regulars and just heard the song of many others. The ones we spotted are
- Greater flameback
- Gray treepie
- Blue throated barbet
- Oriental magpie robin
- Turtle dove
- Red whiskered bulbul..

Somedays an outing means visiting a handmade paper factory in Kalimpong. One way to understand the process of paper making is being hands on. Here we have Renu, giving it a go at removing single wet sheets from freshly made bundles and preparing them for the drying process. .

We get to Tikhedhunga for lunch and it starts to rain with a bit of hail as well. By the time we set off, the rain had subsided a bit and made walking 'Ulleri ko ukalo' easier with the temperature being somewhat cooler. The team was excellent in their climb and in good timing reached Ulleri for the night. The downpour had again begun but by then was in the comfort of a bukhari to keep you warm.

An early morning flight from Kathmandu-Pokhara, followed by drive gets us to our starting point of the trek. Here we meet up with the whole team, the boys who are behind the success of every trek. Bags unloaded from the jeeps are carefully packed in a way fit for the boys to carry it as a head load. We take one group picture before beginning our walk. ..

You can't be at Patan and not enjoy a Newari spread. This time we skipped Honacha and ended up at Nandini food court, where the food was as good. It just got better downing glasses of chang, in the company of good friends and food.

There's never a dull moment in exploring Patan. This time it was even better with the PhotoKtm exhibition on. What was even more wonderful was to see our dearest sister's work along with her students from her art school in Kalimpong. They've been making our hill town proud since forever in the art circle.
Many thanks to our dear friend Nishant (organising team) who took time out to walk us through all the lanes and bylanes in exploring all the exhibitions. This was a brilliant treat!

For those of you in Kathmandu valley, take a day off and head to explore Patan where the exhibition is on till the end of this month. ...

Had the privilege to attend a beautiful temple wedding at Bhaleshwor Mahadev in Chandragiri hill. Located outside Kathmandu city, you'll need to take a short drive first followed by a cable car ride and then a short walk to reach the temple. On clear days, you'll get a clear view of the stunning Himalayan ranges. We were lucky to see it for a short while, nonetheless the view of the hills and the valley is still very pretty. There you go, that's how to spend a day in Kathmandu on your visit.

Some days are spent just like this, sit and observe the birds around. This time we were unable to identify at one go but thanks to friends who help with the ids. We are amateur birders but thoroughly enjoy it.

It feels like going back in time while sitting in the quaint waiting room at the Sukna station of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. Though a bit longer drive, one must consider taking this route atleast once to Kurseong via Rongtong, Tindharia which has a gradual gradient and is very scenic.

In less than a month, we're headed back in the Annapurna foothills that offers all the best of trekking in Nepal. Enjoy spectacular mountain scenery through charming villages inhabited by the Gurungs, Magars, dense rhododendron forests full of birds and deep sub-tropical valleys, all set below the Annapurnas.
