City Heritage & Cafe ROBA: A Delicious Journey Through Iftar Experience and Culinary Stories!
Last Friday, City Heritage partnered with Cafe Roba for a truly unforgettable Iftar experience in Kannur City! ✨
This unique gathering wasn't just about breaking the fast with delicious food. We embarked on a culinary adventure, exploring the stories behind traditional recipes and the historical trade routes that shaped them. ️
Our focus was on Mappila cuisine, a vibrant tapestry woven from centuries of maritime trade. We learned how spices, ingredients, and cooking techniques traveled along these routes, connecting the Malabar Coast with Arab, Persian, European, and Turkish cultures.
Participants were amazed by the fascinating connections and enjoyed lively discussions about the food's cultural significance. The feedback on the recipes was overwhelmingly positive!

Thank you to Heritage Club for inviting us as part of the book launch event for Arakkal AadiRaja since A.D 619 by Nasser Kappad. It was an honor to be a part of such an important event, and I was particularly impressed by the author's efforts to bring the Arakkal Raja family history to light. I hope that this book will help to raise awareness of this important part of Kerala's history.
It was a great honor to share the book launch event with dignitaries like Vice Chancellor Prof.Gopinath Raveendran, Shihab Poockottur, Deputy Mayor Shabeena Teacher, Prof. Koyamma Aadiraja, Dr. Khaleel Chovva, Author Nasar Kappad, and other important guests and audience.
We would also like to thank Prof. Gopinath Raveendran, Vice-Chancellor of Kannur University, for his keynote address. His insights into the importance of preserving our heritage were very thought-provoking.
We would like to congratulate the Heritage Club and the organizers for a job well done. This was a well-organized and informative event, and we look forward to more collaborative and collective efforts in local heritage and culture.

A gratitude note to all those who helped us to find the family of Kadar Navas Khan Khalimi from Kannur City.
Kadar Navas Khan Khalimi was the most inspiring person to Padmasree Ali Manikfan during his childhood.
As a Musician, Teacher and mentor, Kadar Navas Khan Khalimi enlightened the young Manikfan. Even though Manikfan couldn't remember other teachers' names, he is still able to slowly recall all the moments from his memory about the late Khalimi. Most of the memories were about 3 years of schooling and Dars (Madrassa) education from different institutions in Kannur City.
He shared his ardent wish to meet the Khalimi family during an interview with Muhammed Shihad. Then it was only a matter of time to locate the Khalimi family.
Just after the aforementioned interview got published, with the help of social media and Locally active WhatsApp groups we could easily locate Khalimi's daughter Shamshada Beegum and her family. You can see their happiness in this video on their first meeting after a few months of a telephonic conversation.

The momentous interaction between Portugal and Kerala commenced with the colonial voyage of Vasco da Gama in 1498. It had a lasting impact on the society of Kerala. The voyage, with the express purpose of searching for ‘Christians and Spices’, left a long-lasting imprint on the life of the people of Kerala.
Though the Portuguese did not have political dominion in Kerala, the political influence they gained in Kerala precipitated a lot of socio-cultural changes. The intensity and degree of these changes were commensurate with the tenor of the Portuguese networking with the diverse socio-cultural traits in Kerala.
In this small video, you can find the influence made by each other languages in Malayalam and Portuguese through 20 similer words.

Most beautiful architecture on the bank of the Arabian Sea. Renovated by Junoomma AdiRaja from Arakkal Royal Dynasty in the 17th Century at Kannur City. The current edifice of Moideen Palli was built in A.H 1116.
Kannur was home to Kerala’s only Muslim dynasty, the Arakkal Ali Rajas. Moideen Palli, the roadside mosque at Ayikkara or Kannur City in the Kannur district nearby is an excellent piece of craftsmanship. The locals call Ayikkara ‘Kannur city’ because once it was a downtown area during the Arakkal rule. The city area is called ‘Kannur City'.
