Mirik is a picturesque tourist spot nestled in the serene hills of Darjeeling district in West Bengal, India. The name Mirik comes from the Lepcha words Mir-Yok meaning "place burnt by fire".

Mirik has become a popular tourist destination for its climate, natural beauty and easy accessibility. The centre of all attraction is the Sumendu lake, surrounded by a garden on one side and pine trees on the other and linked together by an arching footbridge called Indreni Pull (Rainbow Bridge). A 3.5-km-long road encircles the lake and is used for walks with the view of Kanchenjunga on the far horizon. Boating on the quaint shikaras and pony riding are available.

Elevated at a height of 4,905 ft. Mirik’s most alluring feature is the Bokar Monastery, which itself is located over 5,801ft. The climate of this town is pleasant almost the entire year, fluctuating between 30 degrees to 1 degree Celsius in summer and winter respectively.

Mirik actually has several sightseeing and tourist places other than the lake. Lovely view points to watch sunrise, sunset and the landscape, several nearby tea gardens, monasteries and temples, orange orchards, flower gardens including orchids and more.

Dalhousie is a hill station full of colonial charm that holds lingering echoes of the Raj. Spread out over the five hills (Kathlog, Potreys, Tehra, Bakrota and Balun) the town is named after the 19th century British Governer General Lord Dalhousie. It was popular with the British Army personnel in 1860's. Currently most popular destination of Sikkim is silk –route or old- silk trade route and the entry point of Silk-Route is Lingtam.

The small but very beautiful village is Lingtam, which is on 4.000 ft. above sea level. You can enjoy huge green and greenery valley, spirally flowed river and silence of river (only sound is tweeting of different bird on trees.

This small village was starting point of historical silk route, this route was used to trade to central Asia via Tibet from ancient India. Recently the travelers are allowed to visit this route and region by obtaining a valid permit.

If you want to see a memorizing sun rise for your life time, and then go to Lungthung, distance only 42 K.Ms from Lingtam, and it will take around 2 hrs. to 2.30 hrs. You will get a memorizing sun rise from Sun Rise Point, 12,000 ft. above sea level. Also you will feel like all the peaks Kanchenjunga, Kabru, KumbhKarna, Rathong and many more with parallel distance of your eyes. But one thing you need to leave early around 4.00 A.M from Lingtam to visit memorizing sun rise.

If you are not an early riser then don’t worry you will get another great view of Lungthung from Lingtam which is Zuluk-Loops or Bhul-Bhulaya. A nice view of 95 spiral road at a glance, you will never get such like of road loops anywhere in India other than Zuluk (The road to Lungthung from Lingtam). This is symbol of Zuluk or Old silk-route. You will miss memorizing Zuluk-Loops if you go to sun rise point (Lungthung) at early morning, because this route will cover with full darkness at early morning, in that case go to T-Smongo or Chnagu Lake directly and back. You will get Zuluk-Loops on your return way from Changu Lake to Lingtam.

The Resort is surrounded by hills and wonderfully situated in the midst of great natural beauty. One can enjoy the beauty of green hills which surrounds the resort. The resort is located in vast plain area which cannot be imagined in hilly terrain. The rooms have great view of surrounding, at night you can hear the music of water flowing in river which is just adjacent to the resort. If you are lucky you can also hear the local music from far away village located on the hill top. The frequency of ups and down of the tune of the local melody with the breeze will mesmerize you. Nearest and only big railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP) well connected will all major cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
Nearest and only airport is Bagdogra (IXB) also have daily flight from all major cities of India. From airport or railway station you can hire a car directly to Lingtam, distance around 130 K.M. and car fare around Rs.4, 000 – Rs.4, 500 depends on season.

If you are on budgeted trip then take auto-rickshaw to Siliguri then take bus from Siliguri S.N.T bus stand to Rangpo fare would be around Rs.130 – Rs. 150. From Rangpo a straight road goes to Gangtok directly, take right turn from Rangpo to Rangoli by the bank of river Rangpo, jeep or shared care fare would be around Rs50 – Rs.80. Then another shared car or jeep to Lingtam and cost would be around Rs.20 – Rs.50.

Travel to Lingtam can be done throughout the year except monsoon.

Jhandi, a perfect weekend getaway in the rains

Jhandi could well be a modern day cousin of Hundi and Shundi, place names familiar to anyone who has seen Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne. But those were imaginary places, while Jhandi is a living, breathing, spectacular Himalayan paradise, where you can spend a weekend surrounded by lush, tropical evergreen forests of sal and pine, home to some of India’s rarest Himalayan flora and fauna. The Lava Buddhist monastery is very popular among tourists who want to spend some lonely time far from the madding crowd, an oasis of spiritual serenity. In the Gorubathan area there also lies the picture-perfect hamlet of Fafarkheti, surrounded by the Chel river and thick green forests, an ideal spot for picnics and spiritual rejuvenation.

✅How to reach Jhandi
Visitors may travel from Siliguri, and take the winding road through the Mahananda forest, and travel up to Sevoke. After crossing Sevoke, you can continue over the Coronation Bridge and continue straight. It takes approximately 1.5 hours to reach Fagu from the New Mal Railway Station. You can also reach Fagu from Kalimpong via Lava. Fagu is around 32 kilometers from Malbazar and 87 kilometers distance from Siliguri.
