The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus or Roman Catholic Church can be found at the busy and bustling streets of Dharmatala, Kolkata, at Lenin Sarani.
Pascoa Baretto de Souza, the grandmother of Sir Walter de Souza, the Portuguese consul general in Calcutta, created it in 1832.
A man named Joseph Gonsalves was shot and hurt by Ms. de Souza's son in 1821 as he was making his way back from the former Chowringhi Theatre. The Sacred Heart of Jesus was founded as a result of her commitment to construct a church if her son was declared not guilty. The church was a part of the Padroado parish until 1844.

Beyond Horizon, a historical tourism organization by Women, for Women
Beyond Horizon, a historical tourism organization started its journey from 2014, with the sole purpose of creating an awareness among people about the rich cultural heritage of Bengal. Initially, we started this endeavour with the Craft Village tour and the Terracotta temple tours, and gradually made our way into Colonial Bengal, having now incorporated Kolkata within our research. Being the soul of our cultural aspect, Kolkata is a city riddled with sentiments, nostalgia, as well as a profound sense of unity, within the past and now, through a shared identity of Bangaliyana, not to mention the various other social amalgams, which makes Kolkata what it is, a nexus of dynamism, and diversity.
As we try to touch the heart and soul of our cultural past, we rely not only on tangible forms of heritage but have amalgamated the intangible form as well, thus studying the heritage of an obscure region, a forgotten personality, a normative tradition or even the general lifestyle, stripping it down to its last possible layer. We delve into cultures, as trivial as they seem, that constitute the Kolkata of yesterday and today. More importantly, we primarily focus on women personas, and the various debates and obstacles surrounding them, for as a woman’s organization first and foremost, it is our aim to spread greater awareness about women of the past, since the past is a stepping stone to the present and the future.
We try to keep our walks extremely lucid, bringing forth a coherent, factual talk, easily comprehensible to even a person not well-versed in matters of history.
All of our tours, be it a few hours’ walk or a day long outing are well explored. We take great care in selecting subjects of research which were once talked about and immortalized in old texts, documents and stories but have consigned to oblivion with the passing of time. We delve into old maps, memoirs, old letters and literatures, both in english and bengali as well as the new scholarship published by scholars of modern times. While we work on a particular region, we find it imperative to keep in mind that regional history should always be placed within the wider National historical framework, since undue regionalism distorts history, and should be done away with.
We interact with the locals, engage in oral history, visit the local museum, try to identify the changing pattern of traditions and norms, thus helping people understand the history and culture of a particular time from the micro level to a macro level and to have an overview about how history needs to be documented.
