Why do Indians eat with our hands??

India, as well as other parts of the world, eating with your hands is part of the culture. After all, what could be more natural, more primal? Though many may view this custom as uncivilized, the practice is not as easy as it may look. There is in fact a skill to it and manners to follow. There are also several health benefits from eating with your hands such as improves digestion and prevention of diabetes. There’s also an even deep significance as to why eating with your hands is so important according to Indian culture.

According to Ayurveda, eating with hands is good for your health. The following points describe what happens and how your body reacts when you eat with your hands:

1: Your body is more alert to the food temperature. Your hands will tell your mind if the food is too hot, too cold, or at just the perfect temperature to consume. Your mind then alerts your stomach which is then prepared to digest the food well in advance.

2: The correct amount of food goes in your mouth that you can take in one bite. Imagine feeding a baby with your hands. The amount of food your hands can fit is perfect for you but it will be too much for the baby. Now imagine a baby feeding you. The amount of food a baby’s hand can hold will be too little for you but perfect for the baby.

3: Several good bacteria live on the fingertips, mouth, and throat. The acid in the stomach isn’t enough to digest the food. You need these bacteria to digest the food properly. Also, several of the nerves that end at your fingertips will alert your stomach that you are about to eat. This prepares your stomach for digestion by releasing digestive juices and enzymes.

4: Our five fingers represent the five elements with which our universe is made; Space, Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. It is believed that if these five elements come together when you are eating. They will keep you from overeating and also help in proper digestion.

5: When you eat with your hands, you are not only feeding your stomach, you are also feeding your mind and soul. By touching your food directly with your hands you are creating a physical and spiritual connection with it.

Dirty Hands!!

Most people say you don’t know what your hands touched and what places it was in, hands are always so dirty, why should we contaminate our food by touching it directly with our hands? Our hands are always dirty, it’s true and this is the reason why washing hands thoroughly before and after eating came into practice.

Why should we visit Temples?

India is the country which is known for it’s rich Hindu culture and tradition. There are hundred’s of mesmerizing Hindu temples across the country in different design, shape, locations; but not all temples are built as described in Vedic literature.

Temples are found deliberately at a place where the positive energy is available abundantly from the the magnetic and electric wave conveyances of north/south post push. The idol of God is set in the core center of the temple, known as “Garbhagriha” or “Moolasthanam”. Ideally, the structure of the temple is built after the idol has been placed in a high positive wave centric place. This *moolasthanam* is the place where earth’s magnetic waves are discovered to be most extreme.

Five Senses Of Human Body Are Sight, Hearing, Touch, Taste, And Smell. These Are Activated By The Following Actions In The Temple: The positive energy in the temple is absorbed properly only if you ensure that all five senses are activated in your body while you are in the temple. Also the place of worship is said to be pleased only if your five senses are pleased.

Love till death — Hornbill’s Monogamous Behavious....

Many myths and stories are woven around Horn bills throughout the world.
In Kerala, India,Horn bill(Vezhambal) suggest the endless waiting for rain... Because of this belief, which is likely tied to the fact that in many regions, hornbills appear just before the long rain to come...

It is surprising that people find it difficult to grasp the idea of few birds and animals species are monogamous. Many species live with their single partner till their death. Hornbills are one of such species with a distinct love story. Hornbills are known for it beautiful strong “horn-like” bent bills.

Why food served in a Banana Leaf?

Traditional South Indian meal served on a banana leaf. But have you ever wondered why and the reason behind serving on a banana leaf.

A custom that dates back thousands of years, the use of the banana leaf is as much practical as it is scientific.

The banana leaf may look ordinary but it’s like the Star Lord of the plant kingdom. The leaf itself has a waxy coating that’s packed with polyphenols like epigallocatechin gallate. What that really means is that has a fancy-sounding coating that helps fight cancer and is extremely good for the body.

When hot food is placed on the banana leaf, the waxy coating melts into the food adding flavour, aroma and loads of goodness. Pretty cool that our ancestors knew all of this without the Internet ?

Kavu,Kerala,India

When the land, religion, myth, culture and civilization harmoniously blend together in a small space replete with greenery, we call it kavu a unique and ancient ecological haven common to the land of Kerala. These small verdant patches, deemed sacred in the culture and tradition of Kerala, is home to numerous herbs, plants and trees preserving a special gene pool.

Kavu is the abode of all animism in Kerala. The common man of this land who believed in the existence of soul in all the animate and inanimate things around him worshipped all the elements and phenomenon of nature. Thus we have tree goddesses, mountain gods and forest goddesses in almost all cultures that developed here. It is as part of this reverence that the people of Kerala conserved kavus within the neighbourhood of their homes. Rituals that originated as part of this kavu tradition reflect the folk ingenuity of Kerala.

Inside this unruffled green spots are preserved abundant exotic and rare species of plants like naalppamaram (group of four medicinal plants Ficus carica, Ficus infectoria, Ficus religiosa and Ficus bengalensis), dashapushpam (ten sacred flowers) and many more. Not just this. Kavu plays an important role in stabilizing the ecosystem of the land by conserving soil and water of a region. The small ponds and streams adjoining the kavu are perennial sources of water. The rich debris composition enriches the soil and the nutrients thus generated find their way into the nearby agro system.

Sarpa kavu (sacred serpent grove) near traditional homes that developed as part of this kavu tradition though small in size is also of great floral wealth. They are deemed as the abodes of serpent gods and idols of serpent gods are worshiped inside these groves. The thick undergrowth enveloping these sacred groves is full of medicinal herbs.
