Emerald Valley – The God’s Own Village
…….. It is an integration of the peaceful and calm virgin villages in Kozhikode, known as KAKKAYAM, KALLANODE, KOORACHUNDU, PERUVNNAMOOZHY etc. in the North East of Kozhikode District, and about 45 to 70 km, which is away from the noises Calicut city. Considering of the stunning natural beauty and color of the
geological area named as " MARATHAKAMED"= EMERALD VALLEY- THE GOD’S OWN VILLAGE. (“Marathakam” means, a Shining Green precious natural stone known as Emerald and “MED” means Valley. MARATHAKAMED means EMERALD VALLEY)
The main attractions of these zones are Blessed Nature. All types of forest – i.e. Deciduous, semi deciduous, Ever green, Grass lands, Bamboo forests,- Mountains, Roaring and surfing Rivers, Streams, Waterfalls, Lakes, and wide range Panoramas, Flora and Fauna, Rain, eye catching Sun sets etc. are located in a same, small area, is the most important of Marathakamed. Different and rare specious of wild animals, birds, reptiles, insects, plants, flowers, butterflies, moths, orchids, fungi etc. are differ from many other sanctuaries. The Wild beauty of Urukkuzhi waterfalls may feel as breath taking experience. There is also built a hanging bridge across the rocky river, near the Urukkuzhi waterfalls. Unfortunately, due to some security reasons the permission to this bridge has been blocked. There are also some beautiful waterfalls nearby. The Pappan kuzhi water fall is one in the same. The Panoramic Emerald Valley, Kariyathan-peak, Chuttikkuzhi swimming Spot, Peruvanaamoozhy Reservoir are added decorations of this area. Some of the Government institutions like, Spices Research center, Agriculture farm, Electricity power generating stations, Fish breading center, Crocodile farm etc. are functioning here very informative. From the studies conducted by the individual naturalists, organizations like Malabar Natural History Society, found that many of the rare specious of Animals, Reptiles, Butterflies, Moths, Medicinal plants, Orchid, Fungi, Shrubs are living in this blessed nature in a fear of extinction. These wide varieties of flora and fauna are yet to be studied. Considering the biodiversity this zone,it is very suitable for declare as the most valuable Biological park and nature University. This biodiversity zone of this area is selected as one of the best bio zones by the International Union of Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The cool and medium temperature, Rain, fresh water and air of this area is very good for health, and tranquil ambiance of surroundings may refresh up the mind and body, if any body get a chance to stay. This place is an ideal destination for adventurers and the nature lovers. The experiences of muscle flexing and challenging trekking and rock climbing through a river path, and walk through the forest may unforgettable. The place is very suitable for providing night stay on a rock top in the middle dense forest. This zone provides very suitable locations for nature photography and film making in Malabar area. Many Malayalam films as well as the albums were covered the beauty of this place. The living condition of some tribe groups here in a fear of extinction, is especially notable. Many of them were evicted in the time of construction of power project and irrigation project. And some of the wildlife feared driven to extinction under the pressures of illegal activities like hunting, logging, and fishing,digging sand etc. It can be controlled by integrated power of local people, tribes, by giving well awareness in the importance of conservation of Nature. Engagement of local people in planning and conducting ecotourism activities has generated a new group of stakeholders with a vested interest in protecting nature. The new nature jobs depend on it.
