Kangra Fort is located 20 km from Dharamsala, on the outskirts of the town of Kangra in Himachal Pradesh. It’s the largest fort in the Himalayas and, according to the ArchaeologicalSurvey of India, it is 8th largest in the country – covering an area of 463 acres.The fort is also India’s oldest dated fort, said to be built around 3,500 years ago by Maharaja
Susharma Chandra, a descendant of the Katoch family.

Khaniyara got its name because of its slate deposits. It has slate mines and is asight-seeing place. It is popular among local people as a picnic spot.Khaniyara village Panchayat was one of the richest Panchayat in Asia.
The suburb Khaniyara has several locations of attractions. One of them the Aghanjar Mahadev Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed that once upon a time when Arjuna, one of the Pandavas from the Mahabharata, was on his way to the Kailash Mountains, Lord Shiva appeared at this spot and blessed him with the boon of victory over the Kauravas.

The temple of Brijeshwari is located in the town of Nagarkot, Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh,India and is 11 km away from the nearest railway station of Kangra..A legend says that after GoddessSati sacrificed herself in the honor of Lord Shiva in her Fathers Yagya. Shiva took her body on his
shoulder and started Tandav. In order to stop him from destroying the world Lord Vishnu dividedthe body of Sati into 51 parts with his Chakra. The left breast of Sati fell at this spot, thus making it aShakti Peeth.

St. John Church in Wilderness. It is an Anglican Church which is dedicated toSaint John. This church was constructed in the year 1852, situated at ForsythGanj. It is built in Neo-Gothic architectural style and features Belgianstained-glass windows that were donated by Lady Elgin (Mary LouisaLambton), wife of Lord Elgin.In 1905 an earthquake destroyed the bell tower of this church. A new bell wasbuilt by Stainbank and Mears in 1915, which was brought from England.

Many people are not aware that Palampur and surrounding areas have many tea estatesand tea gardens. Even though these are quite small compared to the estates in Assam etc, the quality of the tea is comparable to the best in India.

The Gyuto Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in the world famous for its teachings of Buddhism and Ta***ic meditation. Originally founded in 1474 in Tibet byJetsun Kunga Dhondup, it was rebuilt in Dharamsala after the Chinese invasion in 1959.
Even today you can see monks practicing ancient rituals including recital of Ta***ic

The pictorial art of Kangra is one of the finest gifts of India to the art-world. This greatart originated in a small hill state ‘Guler’ in the Lower Himalayas in the first half of theeighteenth century when a family of Kashmiri painters trained in Mughal Style ofpainting sought shelter at the court of Raja Dalip Singh (1695-1741) of Guler. The newarrivals mingled with the local artists and were greatly influenced by the atmosphere ofthe hills. Instead of painting flattering portraits of their masters and love scenes, theartists adopted themes of eternal love between Radha and Krishna. The paintings werenaturalistic and employed cool, fresh colors. The colors were extracted from minerals,vegetables and possessed enamel-like luster. Verdant greenery of the landscape, brooks,springs were the recurrent images on the miniatures . . .
