The Empire State Building is one of New York's most famous landmark buildings and key tourist attractions. The 381-meter-tall, 102-storey building was the tallest in the world until the 1 World Trade Center tower rose higher, 41 years later. Topped with a mooring mast for airships, the Empire State Building immediately became a landmark and a symbol for NYC when it opened in 1931.

There are actually two observatories atop the Empire State Building, but both offer astounding views. On clear days, you can see up to 80 miles, looking into the neighboring states of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.

The 86th Floor Observatory (1,050 feet) is the city's highest open-air observation deck, and what most people are expecting to find when they go up the Empire State Building. If it feels familiar, it's because this area has been featured in countless movies and TV shows. Reached by high-speed, automatic elevators, it has both a glass-enclosed area, which is heated in winter and cooled in summer, and spacious outdoor promenades on all four sides of the building. Views are incredible.

The Top Deck on the 102nd Floor stands 1,250 feet above the bustling streets below. While you are 16 storeys higher, the viewing area here is enclosed.

The Statue of Liberty was France's gift to America. Built in 1886, it remains a famous world symbol of freedom and one of the greatest American icons. It is one of the world's largest statues, standing just under 152 feet tall from the base to the torch, and weighing approximately 450,000 pounds.

You can see the statue from land, with particularly good views from Battery Park, on the southern tip of Manhattan. However, to truly appreciate the Statue of Liberty, the best thing to do is to take a short boat trip to Liberty Island and see it up close. You can walk around the base, enter the pedestal, or, with advance reservations, go right up to the crown.

On a tour to the Statue of Liberty, you have the option to stop at Ellis Island and explore the Immigration Museum. This fantastic museum is located in the historic immigration station complex, where thousands of immigrants were processed before entering the United States. Displays focus on the process, the experiences, and the stories of the people who came through here on their journey to the United States. You can even search the on-site computer database to see a record of immigrants who came through here.

Chand Baori (a stepwell) located in the Abhaneri village, around 90 km from Jaipur, is one of the oldest and most photographed ancient monuments in Rajasthan. Built by King Chanda of the Nikumbha dynasty in 9th century AD, it is one of the largest stepwells in the world. Chand Baori was built to conserve water and provide a respite from the intense desert heat. This architectural wonder has 3,500 perfectly symmetrical, narrow steps and it's this exquisite geometry that draws thousands of visitors to it every year. The stepwell narrows as one gets closer to the bottom. A double flight of steps on three sides takes one to the surface of the water below. The fourth side is a three-storeyed pavilion with intricately carved jharokhas (windows), galleries and balconies meant for the royal family to sit in.

Delhi played a major role in the history of India as it was the governing seat of many ruling dynasties including the Mughals. So, without a second thought, we can say that there are still many unexplored historical places in India in the capital city of Delhi. The site of Tughlaqabad has an uncanny resemblance to the ruins of Mohenjo-Daro-Harappa. The place is a beautiful piece of craft showing the advanced heightened techniques of our ancestors from architectural to engineering skills to make artificial lakes, fortresses and high citadels.

Humayun was the son and successor of Babur, the first Emperor of Mughal dynasty. He died in 1556 AD and his widow Hamida Banu Begum, also known as Haji Begum, commenced the construction of his tomb in 1569, fourteen years after his death. It is the first distinct example of Mughal style architecture which was inspired in turn by Persian architecture.
It is well known that Humayun picked up the principles of Persian architecture during his exile and he himself is likely to have planned the tomb. However, there is no record to that effect. The tomb was constructed at the cost of 15 lakh rupees (1.5 million). Mirak Mirza Ghiyath, a Persian, was the architect employed by Haji Begum for this tomb.
The tomb lies in the centre of four-square gardens which are joined together to form a larger square. Humayun's tomb enclosed by four gardens came to be known as 'Char Bagh' and this dominant style of architecture became the prototype of almost all Mughal mausoleums. Humayun's tomb also houses the grave of his wife, Haji Begum, his great great grandson Dara Shukoh as well as many later Mughal Emperors including Jahandar Shah, Farrukhsiyar and others. The size of the tomb, on the banks of the Yamuna, was chosen for its proximity to the tomb of the celebrated Sufi saint of Delhi- Nizamuddin Auliya. "

Known as Hawa Mahal, the Palace of the Winds was constructed in 1799 for Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh as part of the women’s section of the enormous City Palace at the center of Jaipur. The facade we see from the street is essentially an enormous screened porch, one room deep in most places.

THE 953 WINDOWS COVERING THE lace-like facade of the Palace of the Winds were designed to allow the ladies of the royal court to watch the drama of the streets unobserved behind their delicate latticework.
The palace’s distinctive rosy color comes from the natural sandstone from which it is built which also gives Jaipur its nickname, “The Pink City.”

The Palace of the Winds is considered one of the finest examples of Rajput architecture in India.

Its time for Historical Fun Fact!

ONE OF THE The real-life events that inspired Game of Thrones' RED WEDDING

In November of 1440, the newly-appointed 6th Earl of Douglas, who was just 16, and his little brother David, were invited to join the 10-year-old King of Scotland, James II, for dinner at Edinburgh Castle. But it wasn't the young King who had invited the Douglas brothers. The invitation had been issued by Sir William Crichton, Chancellor of Scotland, who feared that the Black Douglas (there was another clan called the Red Douglas) were growing too powerful.

As legend has it, the children were all getting along marvelously, enjoying food, entertainment and talking until the end of the dinner, when the head of a black bull was dropped on the table, symbolizing the death of the Black Douglas. The two young Douglases were dragged outside, given a mock trial, found guilty of high treason, and beheaded. It's said that the Earl pleaded for his brother to be killed first so that the younger boy wouldn't have to witness his older brother's beheading.
This Event is also known as 'THE BLACK DINNER'.

Basgo is more than a 100-year-old coveted town, which has a prominent place in history. It is a symbol of Buddhist culture, which has been practiced here for years.

Despite the whole town of Basgo transmogrify to ruins, its monastery is in fine fettle. Basgo Khar (Fort) was made in 1680, by the then King Jamyang Namgyal as an earthen bastion to protect themselves from invaders.

During the time of Namgyal rule, Basgo was Ladakh’s capital as it had the natural fortifications to keep them safe from adversaries.

During the time of Mughals, Ladakh was consecutively attacked by Central Asian Muslim rulers and was divided into two parts, the lower and upper. Lower Ladakh, Basgo and Temisgam area was ruled by Takpabum and the Upper Ladakh i.e. Shey to Leh kinged by Takbumde.

The ruler of Basgo, King Bhagan, fought and captured his land from the ruler of Leh, taking the name Namgyal meaning triumphant, and established a new empire that continues for years.

From 1555–1575, the ruler Tashi Namgyal was also successful in securing his territory from the Mughals and established the royal fort at the summit of Namgyal. This helped them save their land from enemies for years to come.
