As the summer begins we are changing the timings and the route of the walk. Join The Western Routes on the Old City Heritage Walk in Pune every Sunday at 8 AM.

On the walk, explore the bylanes of Pune on foot. Hear intriguing stories of the rise and fall of the Peshwas, walk through the old city and visit temples, wadas and bazaars, admire the different architectural styles and learn about the traditional art & craft forms that have been part of the city's history and many more such interesting anecdotes about our beloved city.

A Food Treasure Hunt in Pune

After a super fun and successful hunt last year, we are back with the Pune Food Hunt for 2024!

The PFH is a ‘food’ treasure hunt where participants have to form teams of 3-4 people and decipher clues, strategize, locate eating joints in the city, perform tasks and finish the hunt in a stipulated time. Needless to say, loads of exciting prizes to be won.

A week filled with laughter, new friendships, artisans, delicious food, unlimited chaas and of course endless rounds of antakshari and dumb charades. A recap of our city walks and tours!

2023 was an eventful year for The Western Routes. We put together a team of walk leaders who are passionate about heritage and love Pune immensely. Here is what we were able to pull off during the last 12 months!

• 101 Private Walks & Tours attended by 824 people
• 17 Heritage Walks attended by 255 people
• 12 Ganesh Festival Walks attended by 225 people
• 10 Food Walks attended by 143 people
• 140 walks & experiences attended by 1447 people

These stats for our Private Walks & Tours along with our Ganesh Festival Walks, Food Walks and Heritage Walks are a result of the team's dedication and hardwork. Hoping to double these numbers in 2024.

The Western Routes celebrates it's anniversary on 28 December every year. On this day in 2011, we took a group of 13 international students from Leeds Beckett University on a tour to explore the uncharted areas of Ratnagiri. Our first official tour!

We had started branding and product development from September 2011. In fact in October 2011, we came up with a promotional campaign for our tours in Konkan. This was designed by Vidyuth Singh and the photos used were clicked on a photography tour we'd done in September 2011 with fellow friends and well-wishers!

Our love for Konkan has increased manifold and we keep finding new unexplored places here. 12 years on and we are still equally mesmerized by the beauty of Konkan and wholeheartedly promote this region to our fellow travellers!

Hampi Diaries

We started as 17 strangers on a bumpy overnight bus journey to Hampi. After 4 days of exploring Hampi and Badami, bonding over food, hours of Antakshari and card sessions, saree shopping escapades and endless laughter, we returned as friends. The same bumpy overnight bus journey seemed like a breeze. Apologies to the co-travellers who we kept up with our screams and noise during our "celebrity" antakshari!

Few more people inducted to the family!
We just got back from a weeklong tour of Tamil Nadu.

We started the tour with blessings at the Rameswaram temple. Continued on to the tip of the country at the stunning Dhanushkodi. We then explored the mysterious Chettiar mansions of Kanadukathan and Karaikudi. Staying at Saratha Vilas, a Chettiar mansion was one of the highlights. We also explored the Maratha history of Thanjavur. We were enthralled by the beauty of Mantra Koodam, a resort located between 2 rivers in Kumbakonam. Finally ended the trip with the blessings of Parvati at the Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai. Not to forget the endless cups of coffee and the rich diversity in Tamil food.

Overall a wholesome and culturally rich tour. Looking forward to next year's batch!

The last week has been incredible! Over the period of 8 days from 20th to 27th September, we conducted 12 Ganesh Festival Walks in the city! These walks were attended by a total of 278 people and we got a chance to introduce these participants to Pune's Ganeshotsav, its history and the cultural relevance then and now.

On the walks we visited the मानाचे पाच गणपती (Manache Paach Ganpati), the original five locations from where the sarvajanik Ganeshotsav was started by Lokmanya Tilak. These were Kasba Ganpati , Tambdi Jogeshwari, Guruji Talim, Tulshibaug & Kesari Wada. We also visited Bhausaheb Rangari Ganpati which has the honour of being the first sarvajanik ganpati in the country. Of course we also visited the popular Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati.

We gorged on delicious batata wade and ukadiche modak on the walks at the iconic Poona Guest House.
