कोकणात विशेषत: रत्नागिरी जिल्ह्यात शिमगा सण सुमारे 5 ते 15 दिवस असतो. प्रथेप्रमाणे फाल्गुन शुद्ध द्वादशी /त्रयोदशी किंवा पौर्णिमेला होळीचा मुख्य दिवस असतो. यामध्ये मुख्य काम म्हणजे ग्रामदेवतेची पालखी सजवून त्यात रुपे (देवीच्या उत्सवमूर्ती) ठेवून पालखी देवळातून सहाणेवर आणणे . सहाण ही जागा मुख्यत्वेकरून गावातील चावडी असते. तर गावदेवीचे देऊळ हे दूर जंगलात असते. तर पालखी सजवून ढोल-ताशा च्या गजरात साहणेवर आणायची ती होळीच्या दिवशी संध्याकाळी .
त्यानंतर पालखी नाचवण्याचा कार्यक्रम सुरू होतो
