Through Umang program, we are working with the adolescent girls to help them improve their life-skills such as Effective Communication. Our girls participating in the Umang programme exhibited their learnings from the STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics) subjects. In the exhibition, they illustrated and exhibited their learning in mathematics, science, English and life-skills where around 150 members of their own village Shyampura participated. This exhibition, which was curated in a month's time, was aimed to inculcate scientific temperament among the girls and to also equip them with the confidence to share their learnings with their elders from the community. Here is to a positive beginning of the year 2022.. We have just concluded a five-days residential workshop with our 24 fellows (17 girls and 7 boys) from the Ranthambhor Shiksharthi Fellowship Programme (RSFP). In the workshop, they learned about the methods of conducting research with their village communities, understood the concept of Gender and issues related to it more deeply, acquired digital and financial-planning skills. Gramin Shiksha Kendra initiated the RSFP in August 2021 to provide academic support to the children enrolled in government-run schools by meaningfully engaging the youth from the local communities. ✨Umang Programme - Our girls write new year resolutions for 2022✨ Through our intervention, we aim to equip the girls with essential life-skills so that they challenge the adverse forces and take agency regarding their decisions in life. During the sessions, an activity-based learning approach is used to work on communication, team work, assertiveness and self-awareness. In the last week of December, as the new year approaches, our teachers and the girls discussed and wrote their resolutions for 2022. Among many resolutions, a few are - 'I will top in 10th class', 'I will spend more time with family, 'I will speak English as good as my teacher' etc. This is small step towards the girls thinking about their future and taking actions to fulfill those dreams.

Our teachers have been building capacity in the Dance Movement Therapy in partnership with Kolkata Sanved. For their internship, which ended last week, each teacher had chosen a target group. The training will build capacity of our team to conduct sessions with children and the adolescents to ensure their emotional and psycho-social well-being. Our Theatre group also participated in these sessions where they indulged in Movement Therapy Sessions and participated in an activity called 'Compliment circle', where they gave compliments to each other as a team.

By setting up learning centres for children from the Bawri community, we aim to provide children a structured learning environment and to help the community realise the power of education. Inspired from the daily learning of his children, Kanhaiya Lal from the Bawri basti comes forward to engage with the kids through a baal-geet. These concerted efforts to build a relationship of trust with the communities have led to encouraging numbers of children being directed away from rag-picking and towards learning.

✨ Dance Movement Therapy as a Classroom Tool ✨ Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) is a versatile form of therapy founded on the idea that motion and emotion are interconnected; it uses movement to help individuals achieve emotional, cognitive, physical & social integration. In general, DMT promotes the creation of a safe space to express one's feelings, and an enhancement of #selfawareness & #selfesteem. The #creativeexpression of dance therapy can bolster #communicationskills and inspire dynamic relationships. Kolkata Sanved is an organisation that functions based on a unique DMT-for-Change model, practiced in the developmental context for the #healing and #empowerment of marginalised communities. We, at Gramin Shiksha Kendra, hope to incorporate DMT as an impactful classroom tool for our cohorts of adolescent girls part of the Umang Programme. ✨ 'Baal-Manch' Learning Centres for Children of the Bawariya & Gadiya Lohar Communities ✨ We currently run 4 learning centres for children belonging to the aforementioned De-Notified & Nomadic Tribes. Through daily sessions, we seek to provide these first-generation learners with a structured learning environment in preparation for eventual enrollment into the teaching, playing and socialising set-ups of nearby government schools. Post the conclusion of our ration relief drives, we returned to working towards developing our sustainable interventions to empower DNTs to demand their entitlements from a position of enhanced agency. An important aspect of this is collaboratively addressing needs through regular meetings and community/home visits. Efforts are additionally directed towards parents showing greater interest in their wards' education and engaging children through fun learning activities to ensure their high attendance.
