The Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram is a must-see for any traveller. Its impressive architecture, intricate carvings, and towering 38-meter gopuram (ornate gateway tower) create a truly awe-inspiring sight.

Legend connects the temple to the Hindu epic Ramayana. After winning over the demon king Ravana, Lord Rama sought to absolve himself of any sin incurred during the war by worshiping Lord Shiva. Hanuman was sent to bring a lingam from Kashi but was delayed. To assist Rama, Goddess Sita created a lingam out of sand. This "Ramalingam" is believed to be the same lingam worshipped at Ramanathaswamy today. Another lingam, brought by Hanuman, is known as the Vishwalingam.

The temple complex includes 22 theerthams, sacred water bodies where devotees bathe to cleanse themselves and seek forgiveness for their wrongdoings.

The Ramanathaswamy Temple is a marvel to witness. For any travel inquiries to this sacred destination, feel free to contact us.

Pangi Valley, nestled in the remote reaches of Himachal Pradesh, is a haven of pristine nature and ancient traditions. The isolation has helped it preserve its stunning beauty and rich cultural heritage.

However, being remote also brings challenges. Limited resources and infrastructure, combined with its fragile ecosystem, make the valley vulnerable to the impact of overtourism. Therefore, practicing responsible tourism is crucial. By minimizing your impact on the environment, making eco-conscious choices, and respecting the local customs and people, you can help ensure Pangi Valley's magic thrives for generations to come.

Himachal Pradesh: Weather-Friendly Architecture
While a truncated stone corner protects the wooden beams, a wooden peg known as kadil helps in keeping solid wood beams in place. The double-skinned walls with the air gap between two parallel wooden beams filled with loose, small stone pieces insulates the structure, keeping it warm in cold weather and cool in summers. The air gaps also dissipate the seismic force during earthquakes preventing cracks and caving in of walls.

Formal church services in Shimla began in 1836 when the Right Reverend Daniel Wilson, the Bishop of Calcutta, visited the place for the first time. Prayers were held in a thatched roof structure at Northbrook Terrace on the Mall. During his second visit from May to October 1840, Bishop Wilson consecrated the structure as Christ Church on May 28th. This church served as the sole place of worship for several years and, though not large, it sufficed for the small population at the time.

However, the increase in the European population in Shimla necessitated the construction of a larger church. The Bishop of Calcutta made his third visit to Shimla from June to October 1844. Shortly after his arrival, a public meeting on the sixth day addressed the need for a new and spacious church, as the existing one failed to accommodate the Europeans residing in the town. A public fundraising effort was initiated, and a committee was formed with Major Boileau of the Engineers as the designated architect.

On September 9th of the same year, Bishop Daniel Wilson laid the cornerstone of the new church and delivered a speech to mark the occasion. However, the church was not fully prepared for consecration until January 10th, 1857. It took nearly thirteen years to complete this impressive monument, which stands as the most prominent landmark in Shimla.

The first recorded owner of Woodville Palace was William Rose Mansfield, who was a Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial British Army and purchased it in 1866. It served as the official summer residence for the Commanders-in-Chief of India for a period of time.

Later on, it changed hands multiple times and was owned by individuals such as Mrs. Henrietta Ruth Maria Alexander, General Sir Frederick Paul Haines, and Mrs. Eliza Maria Walker, among others. In 1926, it was ultimately purchased by His Highness Maharaja Sir Bhagvat Singh of Gondal State, who then gifted it to his daughter, Rani Leila Ba of Jubbal, in 1930.

After standing unoccupied for 12 years, the property was demolished in 1938 by Raja Rana of Jubbal State Sir Bhagat Chand. He then invested a considerable sum to turn it into a summer palace. The palace served as the residence for the Jubbal royal family until 1977. Eventually, Raj Kumar Uday Singh, the grandson of Bhagat Chand, converted it into a hotel.

Today, the is a highly sought-after heritage property managed by the descendants of the Jubbal Royal family. It offers guests a unique experience, with each room reflecting the distinctive character of the 1930s art deco era. The rooms are adorned with personal artifacts and photographs of Indian royalty.
