Kirti, a passionate traveller, loves exploring new cultures at her own pace. While Spiti was always on her list, the idea of a solo trip felt challenging.

That’s when she came across Ecosphere, “I was impressed by the work they were doing for the lives of the people of Spiti. Finally, I found a tour that would truly give me an experience of life.”💫

When asked if travelling to Spiti brought any meaningful experiences, Kirti said,
“It definitely changed me. As someone who prefers to travel alone, I was a little sceptical about the idea of travelling with complete strangers. But this trip completely changed my perception.” 🙌

Tanvi volunteered at our under Run a Cafe in the Mountains program.☕️ She was seeking a break in her life and exploring volunteering opportunities when she discovered our program and instantly knew it was the perfect fit.

Reflecting on her time at the café, she shared, “The whole journey has just been amazing; filled with growth, new experiences, laughter, memories and more.”💫

“The best parts were meeting people from across the world, hearing their stories about life, travels and some random chit-chats, working with locals and bonding with them over recipes, local culture and life and of course learning all about how to manage a cute little cafe end-to-end.” 🫶

Tanvi’s experience extended beyond the café. She immersed herself in the local way of life, understanding their daily life and challenges.
“It was the overall experience that I got which makes me miss the place even more. I can definitely call Spiti as my home now and the people that I worked with as my family :D”

Last year, we launched the “Spiti Monthly Matters - Greening the Red” program, aimed at promoting environmentally friendly menstrual practices in the Spiti Valley.🌱

The valley produces over 10 Lakh pads worth of menstrual waste each year, which end up in landfills, rivers, and mountains. Traditional pads are not only non-biodegradable but also expensive, as they need to be purchased monthly.

🌸 During our group discussions, the women in the community expressed that reverting to cloth options felt like a step going back to the old ways.

They were eager for a solution that was more convenient and easy to use, leading us to introduce menstrual cups as a progressive alternative.

🌸 These cups are a one-time investment that lasts for years, making them a budget-friendly and sustainable option.

🌸 joined hands with us and provided menstrual cups which were then distributed in 3 villages last year- Demul, Rangrik and Kaza.

This year, we expanded our efforts to include Chicham, Pangmo, Langza, and more, with volunteers from the assisting in the distribution.

🌸 Menstrual health assessments and awareness sessions for women were also conducted.

🌸 What’s more we decided to involve the men too!!

So we organised focus group discussions on Menstrual Health awareness with men about the products being used, their impact on the region and how they can support women with their menstrual health.

We realised that most men only learn about menstruation after marriage, so raising awareness among them was crucial.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to for providing these eco-friendly menstrual cups and to for their role in menstrual awareness and assessments. 🙌

Spiti residents struggle to access fresh vegetables as it is extremely difficult to grow green vegetables in the region. 🌱 Our Intervention: We built over 150+ greenhouses in Spiti to provide year-round access to fresh vegetables.🥕 Each greenhouse yields up to 50 kg of produce per month, including spinach, carrots, tomatoes, and more.
